TPS Light On
Hi Guys,
Last night driving home the TPS light came on an of course all four tires are right on specificed pressures. I did a bit of research here and looks like another stupid, useless pain in the butt techie device designed to get us back to the Dealer service department for expensive do-nothing repairs.
one post noted that you can pass a ring (or donut) magnet over the tire stems where the sensors are housed and doing so will turn off the light on the dashboard. My question is how does it do that? Does it "scramble" the wireless transmitters so they no longer transmit to the monitor, or does that do something else?
i also read the service manual procedure to reset the whole system an it is rediculously complicated and requires a DRB III tool which is prohibitively expensive.
I also noted someone say that assuming there is nothing wrong with tire pressure, the system will turn itselff off (reset) after a few miles of driving. Is this true, or should I start thinking about pulling the instrument cluster out of the dash and removing the stupid light bulb????

Easiest way to disable it is to remove the wire from pin 2 (red) and put it in pin 6 (blue). This will completely disable it and you will no longer have the light illuminate on the instrument cluster. This will not affect the HomeLink in any way so you don't lose that functionality.
To get at the TPMS/HomeLink connector, just remove the dome light and you can see the wires going into it. Remove the connector, use a pick or other fine tipped tool and depress the top of pin 2 so it will slide out. Push the pin back into the connector in the 6th position and reinstall the connector. Reinstall the dome light and you are finished.

My wife drove my Crossfire last Friday.. Sunday she informed me she had forgot to tell me that the "information" light had come on.. you know.. the one with the little circle and " I " in the middle..
Was really hoping false alarm and not a half ruined tire..
Pressures were good.. and Monday on my way home from work light went out. Batteries are what 10 yrs old on an 04 model now.. think it just gets tired (
) and takes a break every now and then.
Looking to get the Schrader programmables I do believe to go with new wheels.. will avoid a trip to the dealer that way..

You can leave it out. The position 6 is not used, so that is just a neat place to put it.
Possibly a dead TPMS battery on one of the sensors on one of your wheels.
Many here simply put a small piece of black electrical tape over the light on the dash cluster and you will never see it again.
Back to the simple ways of just checking you tire pressure evey once in awhile.

Black tape is ugly.......
As it turned out, I took the car out for a drive to Princeton and before i even cross the State Line into New Jersey the light went off by itself and has remained off. So for the time being I'm going let it be. If it comes on again I'm going to pull down the dome light and disable the stupid system.
Its pretty good, these useless little systems designed to keep you tethered to your dealer for live.......

You should probably expect the light back soon.. mine played "peek-a-boo" weekly for a while.. then settled into "working" for quite a while.. and since last Friday has come on..off..and back on last night..
Assuming the trouble may be a stem transmitter battery on its way out how does one replace it? if it comes back on again I'm just disabling the system......

You can just cut that wire, same results.
