Default Windshield question

Hi everyone,

Haven't been here for a while and it is good to see the site is going strong.

I recently had the windshield replaced in my 2005 Limited coupe. The glass that they put in is noticeably different in color from the original; it appears crystal clear as opposed to the rest of the glass in the car which is noticeably green (which is what I remember the original windshield's glass color).

My insurance company (paid for the replacement) says that they will pay for an OEM replacement if it is different in color than what they put in; but they want me to order the windshield at my risk. Once it gets in their adjuster will look at it and if the OEM glass is different in color they'll pay for it. Otherwise I am stuck with the price difference.

Can anyone point me to a source of information about the original color of the windshield glass that came with the vehicle? I find the difference in color to be bothersome and, at least here in Arizona, it seems to make a difference in the intensity of the sunlight coming into the car. I suspect that the original green color does a lot to reduce UV radiation and to keep the interior in good shape.

Any help will be appreciated.

Rob

Not sure on the color question, but Pilkington was the OE glass. Try them to see if they still make a Crossfire windshield.

Thanks, I'll follow up with Pilkington.

Continuing on the thread ... anyone else still have the original windshield in their car? If so what color is it and how does it compare to the rest of the glass in your car; does it match the windshield?

Pilkington is the glass you want And it is right out of the Benz 320 sl from 1996tio 2002. Should have no trouble getting the part. However, some insurance companies won't pay for the British glass preferring Mexican clones.

Also, our glass is bedded in a heat set sealant. be sure you get that as well.

I have had one replacement and it matches. Working on a second one for the other Crossfire.
