Default Rear Spoiler - Not opening fully

My rear spoiler will go up about half way and then stop. Then the button inside flashes and I have to switch the engine off, then press the button to retract it (which works fine). But obviously the spoiler raises itself when driving at speed, and I have to repeat the process when parked up.

Do you think I need a new motor?

Also, the front fogs don't work! Everything else though does

Thanks in advance everyone.

I would start with inspecting and lubing the mechanism :
Remove the plastic cover inside the trunk ( boot ) lid, several plastic pop-ins and one Torx screw.
Unplug the connector to the spoiler.
Remove the 10 or so 10mm nuts and the spoiler assembly can be removed.
Inspect for rust/corrosion, lube the gears with lithium grease, inspect the upper and lower limit switches also.

( see attached schematic )

wow, thanks so much for the reply. I will give that a go and report back. I heard that a dodgy battery can cause problems too? Is that correct?

Weak batteries can cause the spoiler to go up by itself when starting the car.
Not sure if a halfway motion could be a battery but check to see that the battery has at least 12 volts or more with a volt meter

Update : I removed the under panel and inspected the motor, its rusting in there, I think the spoiler must be leaking. The boot lid itself is rusting through EEK!

But, I applied some WD40 to the spoiler mechanism and motor, and then tightened up the bolts that hold the motor in place (one had a quarter inch play in it). After doing this I was delighted to notice my spoiler is working ok now

So, thanks for excellent advice peeps.

Now I need to sort those fogs and waterproof (then rust treat/proof) the boot lid. Is there a how-to?

Thanks

WD40 is short term - lube the gears with lithium grease.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted, now you can cruise at 100 MPH+
There is a how-to on SRT6 wings, don't recall seeing one on a NA Roadster - onehundred80, you have anything on this ?

No, but the area that the panel covers on the SRT6 is the same that the NA spoiler assembly covers. So my guess is the pattern of the seal is the same. James1549 is the expert on that area.
