Default Intercooler Pump Question

I recently purchased a 2005 SRT6 roadster (my second crossfire in 3 yrs) and am experiencing the same problem I have read about in many previous threads. The supercharger stops working after a short period of driving time. There is only 17k miles on the car but know this is a common problem at any miles. I purchased the Johnson CM30 pump from the Eurocharged site. After additional reading, there was discussion about increased pump flow causing damage to the Intercooler. I am curious if this is true or not. Since this pump seems to be the recommended replacement pump, maybe there is more data out there to show that this pump has proven to be the best replacement option. Any input is welcome.

I got the Johnson pump as a spare when I purchased my SRT and decided that I would do a proactive replacement of the weak OEM Bosch unit. I purchased the updated Bosch pump, the 010, and sold the Johnson and kept the old Bosch as my spare as that appeared to me to be the consensus of the forum.

I've been running the Johnson CM-30 pump in my SSB SRT6 roadster for almost two years . . . no problems. I also recently installed the updated Bosch pump on my black SRT6 roadster. The updated Bosch pump is a simple "plug & play" swap while the Johnson pump requires some minor modifications to the wiring and the pump mount. While I believe either pump is a good choice, I would now go with the updated Bosch pump just because of the ease in doing the swap.

I'm not aware of anyone's definitive experience that concluded the pump actually caused intercooler leaks. I believe that the intercooler leaks were strictly related to poor quality welds (repair type welds) made on the intercooler part during the manufacturring / pre-assembly process. Some specific discussion and photos here . . .

Rudy or Woody would be the forum's resident experts to address this issue but maybe other members will chime in here regarding intercooler leaks . . .

Talking Re: Intercooler Pump Question

Intercooler leaks are the function of the heating cycles on the core and the temp differentials, I say this after cutting and examining many intercooler cores. The pump pressure is low --- very low in comparison to the boost we see.

Not to worry about pump pressure. Bigger pumps have the benefit of moving more water and make better use of better cores like the super cooler I designed.

Enjoy, see ya at Pa. Woody
