Default Burp on shift: 6 speed manual

'07 NA 6 speed coupe.

One of the reasons I usually start in 2nd is because a smooth 1-2 shift seems almost impossible & while better when cold there is often a "burp" on almost any upshift that rattles the drivetrain.

Since I have had A Lot of manual transmissioned cars, trucks, and a RV, and never experienced this before was wondering if something is wrong.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix ? There are no error codes.

Three of my cars have automagics, part of the reason for the XF was the 6 errr 5 speed with granny. Just is annoying that I find it so hard to shift without it burping..

A 2.84 (give or take) rearend would be awesome matched with our 6 spd. At a stop I always start in 1st. I do not like lugging engine or slipping the clutch and the extra wear on the throw out bearing. The 1st is alittle low but it works good in traffic jams on interstate. I thought about a 3.07 from a srt but that drops 200 rpm @75 mph

what is a burp? falling on it's nose or what? Sounds like throttle lag.... try the throttle reset and see if it improves. Remember, the car has a memory, so if you drive it slow it will react to slow. throttle reset, and drive the hell out of it. See if you see any improvement. I use to think it was bullshit, but, I learned it wasn't. They will become doggy not driven. If that doesn't do it, you may have a CPS starting to fail as well. And there is always the controversial sprint booster that can be had...no throttle lag with it....

More like I take my foot off the gas and push in the clutch but before the clutch fully disengages, it gets a shot of gas so there is a clunk and jerk as the clutch releases. I'll try the throttle reset.

That sounds like the throttle sticking. Look down at your throttle pedal. Make sure it hasn't crept up on its mounting. They have known to slide up and even come off. It will affect throttle response. It like a floor mat getting in the way if you know what I mean....

Maybe you're engaging the traction control, but I guess the tire smoke would have been your first clue on that

And that takes the prize, just performed the throttle reset and the difference is astounding. Can now use first without the 1-2 shift going all wonkey. Still only good for about 15 mph but what a difference.

Now the real question is "How could Merc engineers ever let it get so bad that a reset is necessary ?"

If was hard for this ole' muscle car guy to believe, but it learns your driving style. So if you putter around it will become sluggish. If you drive it like you stole it, it will become more and more responsive. When everyone in the know told me this, I said "ya right!"..... Well, after adding the sprint booster and doing a few throttle resets, it made me a believer. I never putter around with mine when I know I am headed to the track. I do a throttle reset and run the hell out of it.... Remember, MB is all about comfort and smooth, not what we ole' muscle car guys like, which is jarring shifts and all out throttle...

Since one of my frequent passengers has a neck injury I try to shift as smoothly as possible. Done properly I do not need a clutch once moving with a Jag or the Judge.

That said have had people say my shifting sounds like an automatic. Is part of the reason why the Crossfire has been so frustrating, no matter what I did 1-2 was just not smooth. Couple that with the fact that 2nd is lower than 1st in the GTO and usually I just started in 2nd. Heck I used to do that with the Sunbird and it had a 2.98:1 1st and 3.08 axle

Now it is still way too low but at least I am figuring out the 1-2 shift. First is stil one leap and is wound out but a fast shift barks the tires and the TC burps. If I were to autocross, starting in 2nd would be the way to go. If the TC hadn't proven its worth in rain, I would just disconnect it.

One thing I do not understand is why it feels reved out by 20-25, the gearing says 6 grand should be about 32 but is not how it feels.
