Mechanical questions...
Hey all,
Got my XFire a few days ago. Love it. Love it love it love it.
06 NA with 62K on the clock and the most stunning exterior I've seen, excellent condition for its age.
I have some questions.
The car has a couple of little issues that need to be fixed. The cap has come off one fog light, my plan is to remove the cap from the other fog light so they match, no biggie there.
The drivers side seat switch doesnt work properly. Not much of an issue as I dont move it now its in its position, but I'll take apart the seat and take a look at some point.
The heater only works on hot. I'm going to check out the resistors in the heating pack and see if I can trace whats going on. Not looking forward to that one, but hey ho.
Now I dont know if I have another problem or not. The car, if I engage the manual trans rather hard, gets a knock sounding from under the bonnet. I havnt had the car long enough to get used to the transmission, and I havnt had it long enough to get used to the engine vibrations so I dont know if the mounts are gone or not. When I start the car, it sort of lurches to the left, but not in an alarming manner. Again, unsure if this is standard behaviour of a car with a v6 under the bonnet. Theres no feeling of engine movement when accelerating that I can tell.
Sound like engine mounts or not? I hope not, as my MG that I sold to get this car had engine mount problems. You could feel it moving on accelerating and revving.
Last question - what sort of maintenance should I be looking to do at this point in the cars life?
Cheers all!

I'd be careful, taking the fog light apart is a pain and the adjustment latch that grabs the lens tends to not grip as good after dis assembly. Who's looking at it anyway?

Tell us exactly what the problem is, it may be just the relay.

It could be the valve under the hood that is jammed. Check it first.

Check the mounts.

Just to be safe, change the oil and air filters. Check the power steering oil. Check the air filter on the interior fan under the dash. Check the gearbox and diff oil. Change the engine coolant. Lube all the hinges. Check the damper strut on the steering. Wash out under the fenders to get rid of silt and gravel trapped there. Check the engine power steering pump for small or large oil leaks. Check the brake pads, disks, brake fluid and E brake. There's probably more.
Cheers all!
