Question Help Needed, How Can I Get New Keys Coded

My 2005 SRT6 Convertable was recently stolen. Fortunately I got it back but the keys have never been located. There is no spare set and I have been unable to drive it for 3 months now trying to sort the key issue. I bought a second hand barrel and lock from a wrecked SRT6 but locksmiths have advised we need to get ECM recoded to allow a change in keys etc. Australian dealerships have advised this is not possible in Australia or anywhere and suggested this forum. Can anyone help please? I have also joined the USA forum but no replies yet. Does anyone know anywhere I can get the ECM recoded to allow new keys and barrel. Any aftermarket leads? Cheers, Coochie

You can get replacement keys for your car from needswings in the US. they will ship to you. They will need your vin# and proof of ownership.

Thanks buddy, do you know where I can get the ECM recoded to match a second hand barrel and keys. The thieves still have the keys so need to recode the computer ECM to disable the original keys.

"Probably" not going to happen.. I think your best route would be a key from Needswings "for your vin" .. check into tumbler being set for OEM key .. and have dealer disable other keys in the skreem module.

Is the "current" tumbler still good? If so just a replacement key and dealer removing "old" codes would work.. short of the original thieves being able to manually unlock the door.

yes we can supply you new keys.
yes you can disable old keys if you have someone local that has a Mercedes diagnostic laptop and knows how to use it

I have a Viper security system. My Xfire key bob broke. I went to the Chrysler dealership, ordered a new key and the car started twice. Then, it started to turn over and does not start now! Does the ECM need to be reprogrammed to the new key to start only? And what about the Viper system? I'm stuck.

Do you have the old FOB? If yes, hold it close to the black ring around the ignition. If it starts, your new key needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer. Email Rob at needswings.com, he can explain how that key my not be excepted by the car. You do know about the chip in the FOB, that allows the SKREEM to start the engine? Does the new FOB, lock/unlock the doors?

Hi Coochie

As others have advised, the easiest way is to buy new key(s) from Needwings and use your old ignition barrel. I live in Brisbane and if you're ever passing through, I can delete the old keys from your screem module (immobilizer). If there's anyone that services Mercedes cars near you, I'm sure they'd have the software to do it.

The other option is to get the keys, ignition barrel, screem module and ECM from the wrecked SRT6 crossfire and swap them as a set into your car. This method will also work!

There are also other methods to mate your existing ECM to a different immobilizer and keys. Let me know if you need any help.

Steve:

I have the old Fob, but it never locked or unlocked the doors. That was done by the FOB from the Viper system. All of the security info was in the Viper fob. The Chrysler key only turned the ignition. Pressing the buttons did nothing.

Do you think that the SKREEM was programmed by the Viper people and perhaps could be program for this new key that I received directly from the Dodge/Chrysler dealer.

Your Chrysler FOB ,has a chip that directly acts, with the antenna(black ring around ignition). It then tells the SKREEM, that the correct key with the right chip, is inserted and it's permitted to start the car. I'm surprised Viper was able to get their FOB , to interact with the CLP/SSM to lock/ unlock doors.
Send CL770 a PM, then maybe call him to talk directly to someone that , can help an better understand, one on one..

There are some points here that need clarification.
You got a new key, how much did that cost if it cost a lot then you should be OK if not it is probably a wrongly chipped key.
You say the old Xfire fob started the car and so it should as it has a chip in the fob that matches the security code assigned to your car when it was made.
Forget opening and closing the doors that is a minor issue now.
When did the old key fob break? Maybe the chip fell out.
I would say that either the correct chip is not present, an incorrect chip is present or the SKREEM is shot.
Get rid of the Viper system and junk it, these cars are hard to steel at the best of times, who knows what the thieves did to your car.

Perhaps in my haste I did not explain clearly what happened.

I have had the previous key fob 4 years. When going to my car, I pressed the button and the entire metal key broke off and went flying. The rounded swivel piece broke off and I couldn't find it. I did have the straight, laser-cut metal "key" portion. It would fit into the cylinder and when I held the fob close, the car would start and was drivable.

The "Viper" alarm system was installed when I purchased the car. It's fob has the panic, lock/unlock buttons. The regular key fob never worked for the doors or locks since I have had the vehicle.

I taped the metal stylus to the original key fob but you can imagine it made it difficult starting the car. I then went to a reputable locksmith, hoping to just get the key made and added to the bob. I was told to go to Chrysler and order a new key. Which I did. It arrived the next morning.

I went to the car started it. Drove to work, and home. The next day, drove to work, then, I remember hitting the new bob and the lights flashed, which I thought unusual. I opened the door, inserted the key and heard a slight start, but no start. I tried it again. "Ernt" no start. I turned it a 3rd time, lights on, radio, no start.

I had it towed to a mechanic and they have not been able to discover how to start it but did recommend that I now take it to a Chrysler dealer as it is probably something to do with resetting all of the keys, models together, and they do not have the equipment to do so.

So that is what I'll do tomorrow. Has to be a Chrysler as the nearest Mercedes dealer is 30 miles away. and a specialty shop that only works on Mercedes said they won't touch a Crossfire.

Thank you for all of the input. Hopefully, I'll have my car running Monday. But I always know where to start for infor first.

If you have any other ideas. PLEASE let me know.

Thank you.

Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds ,reattach the cables. See if it gives you 3 more half attempts at starting. Does it actually turn the engine over , with an attempt at starting? Or is it just slow attempts, like the engine is dragging an needing a stronger battery? Has the spoiler ever raised up on its own?

Stylus? what is a stylus, do you mean the key?
There is a small chip inside the fob up by the red plastic lens. That is needed every time the car is started, you got a new key, is it in the old fob?
Where is the chip? It is about 1/16" x 3/32" x 1/32" if you lose it you are in deep doo doo.
The problems sounds like the SKREEM needs the chip signal. No chip = no start

My sincerest Thanks to all who attempted to assist me with starting problems. I have sent the car to a Mercedes mechanic to be fixed. Their shop is rated 5 stars and I am interested to find out if they (1)can fix it and (2) what was wrong. Again. my thanks.
