Default Seat Belt Indicator Light

I'm a new 2005 Roadster Limited owner and I am noticing that I do not get a Seat Belt Indicator Light when I have a someone in the passenger seat and their set belt is not buckled. Is this normal? Shouldn't I be getting a warning to indicate that the passenger (when they are there) is not buckled? I am also concerned that if the car does not realize a passenger is seated that the air-bag system would not correctly deploy in an accident. Any advice? Thanks.

It is possible to switch of ghat air bag using the key in a keyhole visible when the passenger door is open. The light beside the ashtray should light up if that is the case. The airbag is switched OFF when a rear facing a by seat is used.
Or someone may have disconnected the wiring to the seat belt to prevent the alarm.
