Default Throttle sticking?

I have a 2004 crossfire base manual and when I reach about 30 mph the rpms go up to redline while driving. The only way I can get it to go down is to shut the car off while I'm costing with the clutch in. It only does this when I reach 30 miles an hour. Any reason this might happen? I tried the throttle reset procedure a couple times but to no avail. The car sat for a couple of weeks in the winter and this problem happened after I started driving it again.

It starts after I put it in 3rd. But even when it's in gear the car is still accelerating with no input on the gas. After I press the clutch in it then goes to redline and I have to shut the car off.

Default Re: Throttle sticking?

This sounds a bit like what I have experienced. But I think you should re-write your post. Is the engine going to that RPM with clutch in?
So try to describe EXACTLY what is going on and what gear you are in, etc.

I have had two 6 speed Crossfires that will open their throttle on their own, has nothing to do with the pedal - but in my experience, it only happens exactly like this:
  • I've driven the car for some time, it is well warmed up.
  • I stop for 2-10 minutes.
  • I start it up and immediately go DOWN HILL from where I had stopped.
  • I notice the car seems to be speeding up, the throttle is opening, tho I am trying to coast.
  • I push clutch in, and the tach goes to around 4300.
  • The ONLY way to stop this is turn the key off, then back on - it may be ok, may do it again.
  • Once I get to level ground, there is no issue, it is the downgrade that is causing it.

Is THAT what is going on? If not, DESCRIBE EXACTLY what is it doing like I did.
I think I figured my issue out. Tell me/us what your car is doing and I'll expand on what I[m talking about.

EDIT: As I read your post, I am sure we are talking about the same issue. FINALLY someone else is having the same trouble!
