Default Replacement key fob

Recently purchased a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire and the owner only had one key fob which is in very bad condition. I purchased a key fob on eBay and took it to a TrueValue hardware store and they cut the blade but it will not unlock my door. Is there a chip or a programming necessary for the blade to work? From what I'm hearing I have to purchase a $581 key fob through Chrysler for it to work. Help!!

The key is the easiest part to copy.
The fob needs a programmed chip inside the fob to disable the security system and allow the car to start.
To unlock/lock the doors the transmitter in the fob has to be programmed to unlock the doors.

As your key cannot do the even the basic task you have a long way to go.
Your new fob is it just a bare case? I suspect it is.

The current cost cost of a new working fob is $659.95 from NeedsWings.

YOu could transplant the RFID chip to the new FOB.

Then use the blade of the key to open the door (if the blade won't do it, the key was not cut right).

Once you get in the car, put the key in the ignition and program the lock/unlock buttons to the car.
(That part is easy, but I don't have the procedure in front of me.)

Here ya go....

The Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter(s) can be programmed by the customer without special tools.
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

Transmitter programming by the customer is done by performing the following steps:
  1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
  2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.
Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.

Okay, thanks for info. Guess I'm going to have to fork out some $$$$$$ for a new fob!!!! Cause if I lose the one I got with the car I'm SOL.

Hmmmmmm. Is there any way I could screw up the programming in the car trying this. I only paid $7.00 for the fob on eBay and this seems too easy. Have you actually tried this yourself? Thanks in advance.

The $7.00 key fobs are empty cases designed only to replace the outer case! You must open them up and transfer the electronics. Takes about 5 minutes to do.

Really! No wonder it was so cheap. Thanks!! The old case on the fob I got when I purchased the car is in sad shape.

Some call me a troll but here ya go call A1 lock in springfield illinois and order a keyfob and key for your car , comes with chip and all . When you get it have the key cut and then program it. Dont listen to the experts on here how to program it, if you need help or have any questions feel free to ask. Mine was like $38 but im hearing they are like $48 or $58 now. And yes all this useful info from a know nothing troll.
