Lightbulb Use Gear Indicator Area for Compass?

Hey, I just bought a new, black 2004 off the lot at $10k off sticker. I'm loving it.

Has anyone (with a manual tranny) contemplated using the area in the instrument panel that is normally reserved for the automatic tranny gear indication as a digital compass display?

Anybody know of parts that might be able to accomplish this? Though I've still got the temp and time (cool) I'm really missing the compass function from my old car...and that dark space is just begging for a function.

Any ideas about how I might go about it?

first you would need to do some research on digital compasses (what models are out there, physical size, display options, etc.), and then you would have to remove the dash and find out what kind of room is back there to install the compass to show through the opening in the bezel.

i think its a pretty complicated job, because i would bet the LCD display is shared between the clock and the blank "gear indicator" and the only thing that separates it is the dash bezel. you might be better of replacing your rearview mirror with one from Gentex.

Hmm, good point about the shared LCD. That does make it complex.
