Question engine quits

We have a 2007 Aero Blue roadster (original owners) 55K miles.
The engine quit today just after leaving the house. Finally restarted and limped it back home in fear of engine dying on the road.
My neighbor scanned it and did not get any codes. I have heard of this before but first time happening to me.
Where do I start looking?

More symptoms. How fast were you going when it died, did it immediately restart, did it go into limp mode, were there any other odd behaviors or sounds etc.?

low speed, like 5mph, engine takes several attempts before restarting, possible clicking noises too from starter, someone outside the car said they heard it.

I'd say three possibilities.

1. Battery.
2. Crankshaft Position Sensor. It will generally throw a fault code. Replace ONLY with BOSCH CPS.
3. Relay Control Module. Check out the "RCM Repair" link in my signature.

Any other symptoms?
Wing stays up?
Radiator fan spins up REALLY fast with the key in the ON position?
Can you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds when you first turn the key to the ON position?

Replaced the RCM relay and cured all the engine issues, thanks for the help.

He will not only save it but make it better, as he said. It is better to have a spare anyway.

Was nearly stranded with my 15 month old today when my 2006 exhibited some of the symptoms attributed to a faulty RCM. It seemed like the engine wasn't getting enough fuel. I have a lifetime Chrysler warranty, so I tried calling them for roadside assistance. The call center (obviously overseas) was no help. Funny thing is that they were so helpful when my CPS went bad a couple of years ago. After getting the runaround for 15 minutes, I tried starting the car and the engine started and ran just fine. I hung up on Chrysler (who, by the way, never called back) and drove home.

Temperature outside was around 70. I recently replaced the battery. I haven't tried scanning for codes yet. Does this sound like an RCM issue?

John

there are a lot of new and old members here that don't know what you do, (most of our members know of me ,,i build race care,,well did for many years,, and i though i would repair my own RCM ,,and it worked for a day or two.. then i sent it to you tighed1 ,,you repaired it the way it should have been to start with. now with a spare or two with me at all times all done by you i drive without worry about my RCM
I'll put it this way people should not do their own surgery, give to someone that does it all the time,
thanks tighed1 for this great service. jim

I second Jim's comments.
There for a spell several years back, DJ went walkabout and I tried replacing some relays for folks.
Not an easy job unless you have the proper tools ( which I do not )
I was happy to send him all my relays when he came back.

Hi guys, on my 04coupe I added a bypass switch under the hood after my car started dying due to fuel loss. I ended up replacing the rcm but the bypass is staying in just in case ! The bypass sends power directly to the fuel pump wire. Only to be used to get home or trouble shoot the problem.
