Default 06 Crossfire Coupe Spoiler

Hello All,

I recently purchased a 2006 Chrysler Crossfire yesterday! This is my second car ever after my Chrysler Sebring 2006 crapped out on me (11 years of faithful service). I'm loving the car so far! I'm not a huge car guy, but I believe this car will teach me to become one. I have a question regarding the spoiler, currently, the spoiler has some bubbles and rust to it. I was wonder how would I go about making this look "Good"? I was thinking about sanding it out and vinyl wrapping the whole thing, top and bottom. The reason why I want to wrap the bottom also is because it's pretty visible once you pop the spoiler up. What's best way to go about this? I also looked around on Ebay for the same color (Saphire silver blue) and I did find one, but it's not really in the best condition.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Chris

Well, my 04 spoiler is plastic (or composite). It too had some weirdness so I removed it and had it painted by a professional. It's such a small piece the cost was minimal. Really if you're not overly particular and want to do it on the cheap you can buy the paints and supplies yourself and get an acceptable result. You'll just need to do some research on painting with spray cans.

when i got my crossfire, the spoiler had many bubbles.
this is what worked for me:
1- i sanded it and sprayed mul-tie adhesion promoter & tie-coat #1033-C from transtar autobody technologies.
2-filled the surface with evercoat spot-lite 800445 (you have to mix it with a hardener that comes with it).
3-sanded it;
4-then primer gray4603-C from transtar.
5-sanded, then used color match;
6- then jammin clear 6213C from transtar.
>>>about the color match: i am in canada, and got mine from www.robertspaincare.com. but if from the states, as there are restrictions about shipping flammable substances, i cant provide advice on it.
about rust, i have heard that por 15 works great. thats what i will use whenever i face rust. its a matter of sanding the area and then applying it before you do all of the above.
let us know how it worked for you.
i hope this helps.

I agree with Phil as far as painting it goes. I checked the website link and this is an okay operation and recommendation. I went to a PPG paint distributor, as PPG provided the original paint for the cars. They did a colour match thru the dealer and the VIN and it came out perfect match for yellow which is traditionally a difficult colour to match. They will fill a rattle can, provide clear coat, even give you(sell) a small bottle with a nail brush lid which is great for hitting the stone chips. etc. The nice thing about the base coat is that if you are not happy with the way it went on, block sand it with 1000 wet or dray and lay on another coat. I prefer water sanding. By the time you get on the paint how you like it, you will develop some skill and confidence. A number of light coats is better than one heavy coat. Don't be in a rush. You will be a lot happier painting it and it will cost less and look a lot better than wrapping it. The web site link also has some good training videos. Good Luck. I am also from Canada but PPG is international. Shouldn't matter.

Hi G Wheels,

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, I think I'm going to pay a visit to a auto body shop and get a quote. I think that's the best way going about it. I have the Silver blue color so it's a bit hard to match the color.

I was lucky to have an old retired body man who has been fixing my cars over the years. Because my crossfire is black there is no color matching. I do have a company that will actually mix the paint and sell you the spray cans for $20 each. Their shipping is reasonable too. Just search on (automotivetouchup.com) if you decide to fix it yourself. I think they give you the instructions and advice you need if you want to do it yourself.

I purchased a can of Graphite Gray from them to fix a small spot on my 04 coupe. I was very pleased with how well it blended with the existing paint.
