Who reprogrammed your SCREEM and when? Was it a new SCREEM? Sometimes the relays are bad in the RCM and it needs to be replaced or rebuilt by tighend. He is on this forum.

Do you need your SKREEM reprogrammed or repaired? I didn't think a skreem could be "reprogrammed." If you need it repaired, MDP in Pinellas FL did mine. It should be back Tuesday and will see if that was the problem.

What the guy did was transfer all the data from the old unit to the new one... well new to me

Open the RCM.
Turn key to the ON position.
2 of the inner relays should be engaged ( the 3rd inner relay (fuel) will engage then disengage after 2 seconds)).
If not 2, you found the problem. I can fix it! ;-)

Report back with results.

Sounds more like a SKREEM issue.

yea but the thing is I bought one used then took it to a guy who transferred the chip that contains the memory of the key from the old one into the new one and it still doesnt work. Do you think the chip is the issue?

Never heard of that process before. Are you sure he was working on the screem? I'm not certain he knew what he was doing and may have done more harm than good.

To my knowledge they cannot be "reprogrammed"? There is a company called SOS Diagnostics that says they can repair them but I am not sure what your mechanic has dome and if it was, in fact, the screem he was playing with. There is the ignition ring that reads the chip in the key and then sends info to the screem allowing the car to start. The screem is a little black box mounted behind the dash. It sends the info to the ECM under the hood to start the car. All of the info must match between the key, screem and ECU. Right now, no replacement screems are available. You can buy a complete set of used components off Ebay and change them all out as long as where you live does not have smog check requirements. If you change everything out, the wrong VIN number will come up when scanned because it thinks it is in the donor vehicle. I have never heard of what your mechanic attempted to do.

Here is another repair facility. You might try calling them and search screem on this sight for tons of info.

I believe the ECU will lock up if you try to start the car more than 30 times, or something like that. So the ECU may need to be reprogrammed as well. See what Mobile Diagnostics and Programming has to say.

30 no start lockout is an urban legend.. Credible source has debunked it. Looking through 64 thousand threads now. Once found I'll report back with the link.

Red face Re: Car wont start

Hello I HAVE A QUESTION !!

I had a weird experience today . I had gone for a few errands today no problems car started and ran great no lights on dash everything fine !! , I stopped off to have early dinner 3 pm ,well after a nice early dinner I went to start car and nothing each time I turned key all lights on dash nothing no starter engage. Like it was dead. So I thought maybe starter went bad , so I was on a slight hill so I decided to pop the clutch to start going backwards . Nothing happened no go so I sat there. Well called the AAA to have car towed well while waiting to for AAA to answer I tried one more time and she started right up and I thought I didn't want to turn it off so let it run and drove to the bank and a few other stops so went to Wal Mart and figured I will turn it off well I wanted to see if it would start up after shutting it off well it did start right up and so I went in store 20 min came out car started right up again ran like a champ no codes no lights she ran like a new car . I had taken RCM out back last winter and soldered all the possible loose connections so didn't think this wasthe problem so I wanted to know if anyone has had this happen to them . I sometimes get a little frightened to drive Blaze to far from home , any idea what this could be ?? The car was on a slight grade with engine higher than the rear facing restaurant and on the slight hill in the parking lot popping the clutch going backwards then had back end near the curb in the parking space behind me in case the tow driver needed to get to the engine bay . ANY IDEAS and should this lead to more problems . This little car has its quirks . thanks
