Default Skreem???

Spoke with a Chrysler technician today. Informed him of what little I know about the issue with a defective Skreem issue requirements in order to resolve. He said at the dealership they have the scanner, the pigtail, the card and also that he thinks he can order the Virgin module from Chrysler. He admitted that he has never had to resolve an issue himself but thinks if the part is obtainable he can get the code from the year of the car and the last 8 digits of the serial number.

Good luck with that whole dealership service department endeavor. Meanwhile, cueing up the 'Jaws' theme!

Tech left a message for me as I was too busy at work to call today. He is able to get the module and codes. He wants to get with me to go over the cost. This probably won't happen until a week+ as I won't have the vehicle in my possession until next Friday at the earliest. I am not 100% sure that this is the problem with the car yet. I also failed to inquire as to what if any guarantee is offered.

Are you referring to getting a SKREEM module
I'd be surprised if anyone can currently get a new SKREEM module
It is simply not available anywhere at this time
Several long threads here have discussed this many times

He can THINK that, but, as is always the case with dealers, he is wrong.
He is wrong on several levels.

Then why are you pursuing this? Why not verify that is the likely issue first?

I also failed to inquire as to what if any guarantee is offered.
They are not going to guarantee this, once the SKREEM is programmed for your car, it is not usable by anyone else.
I am SURE there is a clause on the invoice (which you will only see once you have paid up): "No returns or refunds on electrical or electronic parts".

If you refuse to pay, you dont get the car back.

You have made no posts asking for help. Why not ask US for help before you shell out $1100 for a SKREEM and "diagnostics"? (Diagnostics that are not diagnostics, because dealers cannot diagnose SKREEM issues.)

Pizza, I have not taken possession of the vehicle yet, before buying it, the seller indicated that the steering was locked up. He also stated that he has trailered it to a number of Chrysler dealerships and none of them have "the chip". I am assuming that this could only mean that it is the skreem that is defective. I have not spoken to the tech, since the message was conveyed to me, that he can get the module the codes. I will call tommorow.

The thing that has me confused is "the steering was locked up"..... the Skreem module has absolutely nothing to do with the steering being "locked up".

Could you elaborate a little more?

Jared

I cannot elaborate a bit more, simply because I do not as of now know. When I get the car in my possession {Friday 1•31•20} I am hoping to find out more.

Zip, thanks. I was unaware of this thread but now I hope that is the problem as opposed to it being the skreem.

PT - Cruisfire. Buying this car with all these 'problems' and trusting someone else's description, is just asking for trouble. If I have read this post correctly, you should walk, NO RUN, away from buying this car. IF you already spent the $, I hope you get some great help HERE in this forum before you take it anywhere. The regulars here all suggest you NEVER take it to a STEALERSHIP (what we call Chryslers tech service on this car). Good luck!

Graphite, I have a 2005 rebuilder, with a damaged: Hood, Front bumper, Driver's side headlight, and the lower passenger side grill insert, + a bit of miscellaneous other things. The "parts car has the same color hood in excellent condition, the driver's side headlight is good condition as well as some of the miscellaneous items I need. It also is equipped with the OEM fixed rear spoiler. The price I am getting it for is about $500.00 more than what I could buy the hood and headlight for. If the problem is the ignition switch housing part# 68001655AB then I think I could turn a buck or two if not more. Or I could source a few more parts and rebuild it for sale complete.

The good the bad and the not so ugly. I took delivery of the parts car January 31. First the bad: found out the seller misrepresented the title to me, insofar as he initially told me it was a "Clear" title car. After looking at the title I see it's a Branded title Water Damage a.k.a. flooded vehicle. Well now the good news, the Skeem was not the issue. It was the ignition key will not turn to all positions issue. Now the not so ugly, I was able to review a video on "Key Fix" here on the forum. Followed as best I could and removed the ignition switch housing. Then proceeded to remove the spring loaded keeper plate thingy and tried the key. It turns to every position like normal. Should I leave it this way or get a housing with the keeper thingy in working condition from a salvage yard?

Thanks Ala, I was leaning towards just that. If I remember the post correctly, the factory key will still work as normal, and the steering will still lock after key removal.
