Gas cap tether clip
Try Mercedes part number 001 990 23 92 and let me know if that worked for you.
That is the plastic rivet that holds the tether according to the various MB sites, is that what he means by clip?
The Mercedes part doesn’t work. I had a local auto shop modify the opening for the clip ( rivet) by enlarging it slightly and use a generic rivet to secure the tether. Mopar no longer supplies the gas cap door which inluded the rivet. The SLK320 uses a different part.

I agree. I was told this by a Mopar representative that the rivet comes with the gas cap door, which they no longer supply. Door on the Crossfire May be a different size vs the SLK320.? Obviously different sheet metal.
May I suggest you do not go by a statement by any MOPAR rep? Chrysler left us all out in the cold many years ago. This car is a bastage (intently misspelled) MB/Chrysler stepchild that will cost you dearly if you take it to a dealership. This is why we not so affectionally call them STEALERSHIPS. My 'tether' broke many years ago, just slip it into the provided 'holder' on the fuel door when removed.

I assume the generic rivet fixed the problem? If so let us see a photo of the fix.
