Tightening steering play
In some recent post's about replacing the steering damper, there was some reference to tightening the steering wheel/column. Of interest to me were the threads that said several people found the lock screw loose on the column near the steering wheel. I wanted to check mine but can't find it. I tried to remove the lower dash piece under the column by removing the one visible screw in it, but couldn't get it, the cover, to come loose. I don't know if this is the panel I need to remove to access the tightening screw or not. My Chrysler service manual for the Crossfire cover quite a bit about the steering but not a word about the tightening screw at all. It shows a cinch bolt down near the steering box but nothing up by the steering wheel. For anyone who has tightened this bolt/screw, could you tell me exactly where it is and how you accessed it. My XF is a 2005 limited if that makes a difference. After removing the one screw in the grey lower dash panel, I thought it would come out. It didn't, so if you've done this, how did you get the panel out? Then, did this give you access to the adjustment screw? My steering column/wheel is pretty well in towards the dash. Does it have to come out towards the seat? If anyone can give me some experienced direction on this project, I would appreciate it very much. The Chrysler manual's seem quite useless on this little project.

Thanks dedwards0323, thats just what I was looking for. Between the two threads I think I can now check the cinch bolt in question. I certainly appreciate your help.

ala_xfire - Thanks to you for steering (no pun) me to the site for the removal of the lower dash panel. Information and photo's like this are a huge help in getting even a small project done.
Thanks again, for your research and direction.
