It is just a saying. 😉
Some reader do erase the code and they are listed on this forum somewhere. I have four readers and I think only one does the erase required.

Thanks for the heads up. I will drive to the other private garage and have it reset again before sending both of em to where that guy suggested.

Not quite sure what your saying. Did you install the new used part yet? IF the numbers are the same and all that is needed is resetting the light, then research the forum here for what OBD readers can reset the light, and do it yourself. This will probably save you a lot of money AND you'll have a diagnostic tool to help you from now on. REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE NEG CABLE FROM THE BATTERY AND WAIT THREE TO FIVE MINUTES BEFORE PULLING/CONNECTING ANY PLUGS! Good luck!

An FYI update, after almost 1 1/2 years after having the airbag/SRS light on. The car has been fixed!

Would like to thank the members @zip439 @onehundred80 @chriscat32 @GraphiteGhost for sharing their knowledge.

Problem: Airbag / SRS light constantly lit , airbags not working / undeployable in case they are needed
Diagnosis: No communication with the Airbag control module / Stealership diagnosis: Burnt control module with a fix price of more than 3k $ + labour

Actual fix:

1) Buy a used Bosch airbag control module off E-bay (20-50$)/ salvage yard with spare part number 0018200826 (I was lucky enough to find one pulled from a 3.2 NA in Holland)
2) Find a laptop with a Mercedes program / code reader that can reset SRS codes.
3) Disconnect battery - Dismantle center console (detailed video in Youtube), unplug comm cable from module socket , unscrew 3 bolts and replace the module.
4) Reconnect battery - Connect laptop / code reader and reset code. Done.

darkeid, Thank you for the follow up and the repair information! It helps many who in the future find themselves with the same problem and varifies the info we passed to you is correct.
Enjoy your car!

Mine also is in error. I have no plans to fix it, the last thing I want is the airbag deploying.

I've been in four accidents in my life, and was slightly injured in two of them. In both cases, my injuries were from the deployment of the airbag.
To hell with the airbags.

But post 25 confirms what I was told two years ago: The code must be reset but the modules are generic from car to car.
I didn't notice this thread, I just stopped by now to edit the typo in the title. But until now, I didn't know for SURE those modules were generic, so my input would be a guess anyway.
We all know the truth now.

Well if my wife and I ever make it to the dragon and your there I'll have my X431 with me and can reset it for you if you replace the module before going (if you decide you want it working)

In all honesty we can not confirm the "universal" mercedes compatibility. I purchased the same module twice to get the car fixed, the first replacement module I bought from a FB Crossfire tech parts - community/group from a salvage yard in Texas. Following the exact same steps, it didn't fix the problem and I had been told it was pulled from a Crossfire that didn't have its airbags deployed (Also can not dismiss the possibility that it got damaged in transit as in fact it travelled half the planet to get here). The second module i bought from the link i added in post 25 and it was also pulled from a Crossfire in Holland that also didn't have deployed airbags and that one thankfully worked. Chances are that all modules will be suitable.

There are two things I would like to say again, first and most important is that this forum / members in this thread were more than helpful in solving the problem. Also, dealerships will rip you a new one if you let them.

Afternoon,
Same issue airbag light on, have not bought a good reader yet, but do have a question about replacement module number.

Group saying MB 001 820 08 26 but in the Crossfire parts manual it shows two part numbers,
05099301AA - Airbag Control Seatbelt locking
05102756AA - Airbag Control.

Question which one is the 001 820 08 26, and which one needs replacing (until my Innova 3610 reader shows up, only reader I heard that will reset the airbag code?)

@Woodgang

This is #4 on your code list and it is located on the floor, inside & under the center console.

This is where i bought mine ( https://www.proxyparts.com/car-parts...airbag-module/ ). You need to find this part from a Crossfire or another car that didn't have its airbags deployed and just replace it and reset the SRS code.

P.S I didnt have a code reader and therefore i don't know which code reader is suitable to reset SRS codes , the independent garage that fixed the car used a laptop with a MB program to do it.

P.S.2 This where the module is:

Good luck with your repair

#1 is the Passenger-Side Airbag.
#4 is the Driver-Side Airbag.

I guess the big question is how do you know its the driver's side air bag module as compared to the passenger side?

Sure...the entire thread is saying that its a bad air bag module. The driver's module and passenger module are different parts in different locations so how do you confirm which one is faulty before replacing one and finding out its really the other one?

Good Point - The Airbag Warning Light just tells you there is a problem within the system. I would think one would need to download the codes generated in the OBD2 to see what failure in the Crossfire Restraint System was the issue, if that distinction is even captured by the OBD2. Lacking that information, there are diagnostic procedures outlined in the Service Manual to troubleshoot & pinpoint the problem.

Its what the stealership technicians diagnosed initially. Since the same module (located in center console) has been replaced by a few people in this thread and the problem was fixed, i don't see how the seating belt lock module could be the one.

Hi All,
just wanted to comment about using the innova 3160d scanner to reset the srs light - I have a 2005 manual roadster and I just recently replaced the multifunction switch. To see if the install went correctly, I started the car before I replaced the steering wheel. Unfortunately, after reinstalling everything, my airbag warning light is now on. I figured no problem, I'll use my innova 3160d to reset it. The problem is that the innova SRS reset function only works on 2008 crossfires according to the innova website. It didn't work on my 2005. When I plug the scanner in, and ask it to read the SRS system, it says no go. Just a warning for those who are thinking of buying an innova 3160d. I've also got a micropod 2 clone running the enhanced DRB III software, but that doesn't seem to be able to reset the SRS either.... Anybody know if the micropod 2 can do the reset. It worked for the TPMS reset...
Thanks.
-Jerry
