I am on #10 of Sticky Key doc and can turn black cylinder counterclockwise but key won't go into 1 position and tumblers will not release. Help?

DAMMIT. I thought the revised procedure was posted. You need not do what you are trying to do.
VERY SORRY.

In any event, you turn the key to POS 1 FIRST, then rotate the black cap. But again, we no longer go to that trouble. Let me dig up the revised procedure.

Ok, your post is hard to understand.

Are you saying you started the repair and suddenly the key won't turn?
Or are you saying you are trying to fix a car that the key would not turn at all and that's why you are working on it?

Because the answer to the above questions determines what you must do from here.

I began the process, inserted the key at the appropriate step, turned the black cylinder but key would not turn to position 1. That's where I stopped. Totally stuck.

Now my key cannot be turned or removed. The car was working fine....parked it and could not turn key next day. It had stuck a little before but nothing major. I could insert and remove key but would not turn with all the jiggling in the world so started the sticky key fix today and am stuck 🙃

That's not the procedure. You turn the key to position 1, then, making sure the key stays still, you turn the black ring.

But again, we no longer remove the cylinder anyway. I'd rotate the black ring back to where it was and see if the key turns. If so, fine.
THEN we can help you with the NEW procedure (which was developed only in the last few months, I tried it myself on two cars yesterday and it works fine AND saves time!)

See if you can get it back to where the ring is in the right spot AND the key will turn, we can go from there. If you can get it turning, I can have you "good to go" real soon thereafter.

Can turn the cylinder but cannot get the key to position 1 and cannot pull out the key/tumblers.

OK, you are making this too hard.
1) IGNORE My post above.
2) You simply have the "STUCK KEY" and not 'sticky key' and if you read the rest of the procedure, you will see you must drill the pin out.
This is not a fun job, but many have had to do it.

I guess you didn't read this at the bottom of step 10:

THis is why we mod the cars before they fail, it's way easier!!! I did two yesterday who had no issues, but we wanted to fix it BEFORE the car was immobilized by a frozen key. Now you see WHY!

Once I inserted the key per #9, I could not turn it to position 1... that's my dilemma. Now I cannot remove it. The key and tumblers never budged. I watched the you tube attachment. Everyone wants the key to turn but mine will not. Any ideas from here?

Guess I should never have tried this on a full moon. OK remove the whole ignition mechanism and drill out pin is my next option? Without removing key and tumblers? Does anyone know a crossfire mechanic in Maine?

Do not drill out the pin, grind it out with a Dremel and burr.

The PDF explains what to do when the key will not turn at the end you are not in any trouble. You do not have buy anything, follow the instructions.

I don't know how to help you. First, I've never done one that was locked up, I have only done pre-emptive fixes. Therefore, I"m not clear on the exact procedure.
In cases of locked up assemblies, you drill the pin out - but you won't have the key in the lock because there is no reason to have the key in there - its LOCKED so putting the key in isn't helpful.
You can remove the assembly cause the key is not in there and you have drilled the pin, so there is no reason to put the key in.

Are you saying you cannot pull the key out? If you can't, then you actually have turned the key past "zero", I'd think you can rotate the black ring and remove the ring and the key/tumblers will come out!

Wish I could send you a picture! I tried but in the end key fob broke off, key and tumblers still stuck in and ignition in pieces. My car interior looks even worse. On to new ignition parts, cylinder, tumblers and key. My hands hurt, my head hurts I miss my beautiful ride so I'll just drink some beers and hope for better days. Thanks to all for your help, direction and this forum which is awesome! After all, it is a red headed stepchild of mine.
