The key turns a pinch to the right and the black cylinder turns and turns with effort but nothing will pull those tumblers out...the key is holding hard.

Have you tried moving the steering wheel? By doing so you may get lucky and release pressure from the locking mechanism which will allow the key to be removed.
Just this morning I picked up where I left off and started #10 where I inserted the key but could not turn it to POSITION 1, thinking I had the “key won’t turn” delima
Tried multiple times with no success, including jiggling the steering wheel. Looking around I saw the telescoping adjust so I then moved it back and forth about 5 times while trying for POSITION 1. On the last attempt it worked !

I threw away the spring and pin, and am on the downhill side to where I was putting the tumbler and black cylinder back in.........with no luck.
after an hour of this, I separated the two and put the tumbler in....but now I cannot insert the black cylinder.
#1 shows key in off position
this is the black cylinder ..........showing the flat outside segment and the inside concave segment
does anyone know how the cylinder gets put back ........?
