Default Oil light goes on then off when the oil level is okay

I have a 2005 crossfire with 53000 miles on it. When I start to drive the car the need oil light goes on and shortly after that, it goes off. The oil level is full. This happens a few times and then the need oil light stays off. What could be wrong?

There is not enough information to even guess. When the oil light is off, are you driving straight with no sudden changes in speed or direction? Are you on a steep hill or hills and the light comes on and off again (or stopping, either pointing up or down)? Please come back in and give some more detailed information.

The oil light, that is, the "genie" light, is an indication of low oil level (not pressure, the M112 engine has no oil pressure sensor). Our cars are known for the oil level sending unit failing, very common.

Unfortunately, they are expensive and not all that easy to change - you must drop the oil pan to get to it. I swear, if mine fails, I'm going to ignore it. I have a pressure gauge on everything I own.

THis is the part:

I am driving straight and on a level road. The light comes on/off two times and then stays off. I have driven 2 miles and the light goes off for good, even if I stop for ten minutes and then take off. If I stop for an hour or more, and then turn the car back on and drive away, I have no problem with the light going on. Also, the car sits in the garage for 5 days before I drive it again; sometimes a couple of months go by before I drive it.
The oil has no more than 2000 miles on it. I change the oil filter when I change the oil. Could the people who changed the oil did not change the filter?

You might try adding just a few ounces of oil? You may be right at that point of sensing low oil and as it warms, it expands just enough to turn the light off. It is worth a try and won't hurt.

I had this light come on in my 207 Coupe a few years back. It happened after I had performed and oil/filter change. During that oil change, I attempted to pour in 8.5 quarts of oil since the Owners & Service Manuals said the proper oil fill was 8 liters (8.4535 quarts). All seemed good; oil level on dipstick was all the way to the full mark, maybe slightly above. Anyway, a few weeks after, I was driving in the 'twisties' of the NC/TN mountains with other Crossfire Owners and the 'HIGH LEVEL' oil warning light kept coming on telling me there was too much oil in the system. The forces experienced during all those 'twisties' sloshed the oil around enough to trigger that warning. After I got home, I sucked out about a 1/2 quart and everything was good after. From that point on, every time I do an oil change, I only add 8 quarts of Mobil 1 (which is what quite a few of us do that live in CONUS). Never had any more issues with the 'low level' oil light coming on and if I check the dipstick after an oil change, oil level is right at or ever so slightly below the FULL mark.

Here's the page from the 2007 Owners Manual that covers the Oil Level Indicator Light:

The filter they used was probably a paper filter, which by now has collapsed, but that wont light the low oil light.

The low oil light comes at at about two quarts low. If the light is coming on and the level is fine, they the sensor is bad - which has happened to literally DOZENS of members on the Fakebook pages.
