So I bought my 2006 crossfire recently and there is a piece of broken key stuck in the driver's door lock cylinder. I bought a used lock cylinder from a junkyard but it didn't come with a key. Simple, I thought. Just need a locksmith to recode the door lock cylinder to match my existing keys. I reached out to several in my area (NH) and they don't do that work. Does anyone know of a company that I can mail the lock cylinder and key blade to for recoding?

 

Hi, how much of the key is broken? Can you see it in the lock cylinder? Maybe it can be picked out. Have you taken the car or the original cylinder to a locksmith?

 

The old cylinder is trashed. It is all corroded and the key piece is small and way in the bottom of the cylinder. I haven't been to a locksmith because none of the locals say that they can do it.
I found one place I can mail it to and they will recode the lock for 250. But that sounds really high.

 

Does your FOB lock and unlock the doors, truck, gas cap? I think in the roadster the center console and glove compartment should also lock when you use the FOB button.
When you use the FOB to lock/unlock do the lights blink? Does the key you have lock and unlock the glove compartment? If you lock the car, the individual door lock buttons on the top of the door rescind down so no one can physically pull them up and unlock the doors; My questions is if you are out of the car and the car is locked use the FOB to unlock, then wait, do not open any door or trunk. The car should re-lock itself in about 30 seconds. Did your car re-lock? These may seem unrelated, but it helps us understand if your system is working correctly. The key is one part of a anti-theft system. There are a lot of interrelated parts.
What you are asking seems to be simply mechanical. The metal blades are just cut metal, no electrical "recoding" is necessary. The drivers door cylinder is just mechanical. There are electrical switches connected to it within the interior of the door, but the cylinder is just mechanical. Those locksmiths should have been able to help with the cylinder.
The key you received from the previous owner is not original to the car and he was having problems with the trunk from what i read of his description of the car.

Nothing worked when I first got the car. I replaced the air lock module assembly in the trunk and all is now well with the power locks.i am now just trying to recode the used lock cylinder to mate to the existing key blade so I can get into the locked car if the battery is dead. I thought it was a simple thing, but apparently locksmiths near me don't do side cut keys and cylinders. Thanks for the detailed response.
