Default Another shifter problem

I see a lot of people posting about their shifters, not being able to get them out of park and shift interlock problems.
my problem is it starts right up, but no gear indicator on the dash, no P, R, N,D. Just blank. It shifts right into gear but then locks. You have to shut the car off to move the shifter. Brake lights work. Any ideas? I did buy another shifter and same problem

If the dash gear shift indicator is a black square you have a problem with the RCM or the TCU.

Here is a link to another thread on this forum. Read the entire thread It will help explain your situation: No gear indication

Thanks zip! I will check the RCM. Difference is my car starts right up, goes into gear, but will not come back out of gear. But still no indicator next to the clock. Sounds like a new place to check

Have you checked for codes. Might be a CAN BUS issue (P0600).
