Default Changing oil and filter?

Having just purchased an '05, SRT6 Roadster, 3k miles but has been in service for almost a year.
Decided to change oil and filter.
AutoZone has the Fram filter, #TG7317 on sale for $5.18.
BUT perhaps this is not the right filter?
Reading posts re. oil change I see "O' rings mentioned?
Can someone clarify as there are no "O" rings w/ the filter!

Andrew. Thanks for the H.B!

Changing the filter requires replacing O-rings. I would recommend going to the dealer or ordering your filters on-line and leaving the Fram on the shelf. There are plenty of posts on filter numbers and how to's throughout the forum. It isn't hard at all...just get the right stuff. Good luck.

Autozone do an STP filter - it comes with 5 O-rings.
I believe we need 4 for the Crossfire, and the MB uses 5.

Thanks, further exploration indicates they sold me the wrong filter!

That backs-up what I thought/read (didn't want to say anything though).
When reading thought the filter catalog @ Autozone...
K&N, STP, Fram etc. etc.
Only STP had a filter listed for our car.

Yes! I just bought one # 58481 w/ 5 "O" rings.
Stops particles as small as 1/1,000 mm.
Wonder what that computes to in Microns?
Seems most good ones stop 10-20 Microns.

Probably better deals but:
Bought Liquivac http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...ategory%20Page
Actually $39.99 + tax by ordering from local store.
Wal-mart had Mobil 1 (didn't see ow-40) for $22.xx gal
Bought Stp filter-$12
First oil change will be about $110 but only $66 thereafter.
Hope the Liquivac hose goes down the dipstick hole! They assured me it would, hole is 3/10 inch.
Any hints re. twisting the filter off?

Get a 74/76mm X 14 oil filter wrench from any auto parts store for removal/installation and a torque wrench to tighten to specification on reinstall.

Thanks, was thinking a strap wrench.
The proper torque is?
Currently I own 2 Reattas, a ragtop and coupe. # 5 and 6 for me. Have always done most of my own work but electronics is weak. If not too lazy can do most everything else.
A '91 coupe makes for a great daily driver and the Reatta Forum (AACA-Buick Motor Club) is probably the most active of any. Think I have 4-5,000 posts there and have saved thousands from others help.

1/1,000 millimeter = 1 micrometer = 1 micron.

Thanks! The filter was so tight I had to insert some rubber between wrench and filter so it would grip. Was very tight for several rotations.
Oil and filter changed! Cost w/ purchase of Topsider = about $100.
Took about 30 minutes w/ the Topsider as is easy to get to much vacuum = hose clamps shut = have to bleed off a little vacuum to get flow started again. Total time was about an hour as I dinked and made sure of things as it was my 1st. time on this car.
Car has 3,400 miles, 1 st. oil change and the filter was almost frozen, very tight.
The Topsider drained about 8 qts. and 4 oz. I put 8 qts. back in and the dipstick shows 3 little lines low. Ugliest dip stick I ever saw and hard to read when oil is clean.
FSS - gave up for that session. (I think while driving back from Fl. after purchase, pushing buttons, etc., w/ no knowledge)...I may have reset-anyway-never saw anything while fiddling w/ it, usually both displays were blank and I never got 7,000 miles - once I did see a clock w/ a hand at 1,145 think was also an oil can at right.
Will play w/ it a little today then maybe scream for Help!
I spilled no oil and my next oil and filter change will cost only about $60.

I always liked those. Lots of character - just like the Crossfire.

There's a method to resetting the FSS...it's detailed in the service manual which you can download here:
