Angry Auto Transmission Slips out of Gear while driving.

New Crossfire owner, new to forum. Just purchased 2005 Limited with Auto Trans. 8,800 miles, Manf Program Car. I've had the car 3 days now and was driving it a bit hard today when out of the blue the car just popped out of gear. kicked back in after about 5 seconds. Happened again about 5 minutes later under same conditions so I got it home ASAP. Anyone aware of this being a problem? Any suggestions? Thanks

SFERLISI,

It sounds like your low on ATF. You will need to take it to the dealer and have the fluid level checked it since there isn't a dipstick. The dealer has special tooling that is basically a dipstick. There has been a few post where owners had a leak from a faultily o-ring; do a search for the details.

Had that checked first thing this morning at dealership. ATF level perfect, o-ring seal looks good and no leak detected. On the list to bring it back in next week for the Trans Specialist to take a look. Fortunately, still uder warranty.

Alright, I'll bite. What's the 70% rule?

I know I'm the new guy and a little hazing is in order but can you decode that reply on the "70% Rule". Already given away 200 of those 100's just to get a car that won't stay in gear. Would like to know why I'm given up another. Thanks

70% rule is when the tech replaces the trans with a brnd new unit because it will cost more than 70% to repair.

This sounds like an electronics issue to me, not a mechanical issue.

Did your dealer check the ECU codes? If not, have them look at the PCM and ATC diagnostics first. This sounds like a limp-home mode to me.

They will, they aren't gonna throw a 4g unit in it without covering the basics.

Hello Everyone,

Well, this forum is just great !!
I bought a Crossfire Roadster last Friday and tried it a bit hardly yesterday when the transmission slipped out just as described by SFERLISI.
I'm going to have an appointment with Chrysler very soon because it was quite a bit dangerous 65 Miles/hour in a curve (highway) !!
Then, if you have some more information, I'm seriously interested in. I will keep you informed.

Thanks for your help and have a wonderful ride

I have a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Limited Roadster AT 22K and this same thing happened to me this morning. I was driving and suddently I heard a chirp. My car just kept revving as I pressed on the gas.
I pulled to the side of the interstate and when I made a complete stop my car started working again. I tried to recreated it but the car seems fine for now. How am I going to explain this to the dealer? They always have an issue when you cannot recreate the problem..

Same happened to me. I have a leaky o-ring and my tranny fluid was low

Ok so to let you guys know my experience. I brought my car to the White Plains Chrysler in Westchester county. About a month ago. I told them what I saw on this forum and even the guy I talked to on the phone agreed that it could be low tranny fluid causing my issue. They took my car in and told me nothing was wrong with it. They did not see any issues with my car and if the car acted up again bring it in while it is acting up.

So last week it finally happened! My car got stuck in 3rd gear and I had to drive it from my job in 3rd gear all the way to the dealer. So they look at it and guess what! I was low on transmission fluid. Thankfully I was still under warranty. On top of that they wanted charge me for a BS maintance job on my tranny. I was thinking if you never checked my fluid levels when I brought it in the first time. What make me think you will even do the work even if I pay you???? I dont know if my tranny feels the same.. It is not upshifting all the time when I floor it. However I know I will never get anywhere with this dealership.
