Thumbs up Eco/Green detailing tips!

We have just returned from the Mobile Tech expo that was held in Clearwater, Florida for the auto detailing/reconditioning professionals.

One of the seminars that the International detailing association held was on Eco-washing and detailing and utilizing Water-$mart technology for the car care industry professionals.

It is a quite easy and simple that can save an enormous amount of time while washing and maintaining your vehicle while also preserving the environment.

Please feel free to view our Eco-friendly detailing library and information regarding this fast growing technology on washing and maintaining your vehicle.

If needed the staff at Gias's detailing is available to answer any of your questions as well.

The information and bio's of the eco panel are located at: http://mobileworks.com/Eco-Detailing-Information.html

You will be surprised as to this technology and growing trend in the auto detailing and reconditioning industry!!!

There are many facets of the waterless process that makes sense. Unfortunately there are several weaknesses with any of the waterless products so choosing the right one is key!

But the best practices for using them are the same and are outlined in an easy FOUR step process:

1. Spray your selected waterless cleaner on the dirty surface out of the direct sunlight
2. After spraying on surface the product begins to work and starts to emulsifies dirt and protects the surface. Start working in the product with a clean microfiber which also lifts the dirt off the vehicle surface
3. Take a second clean microfiber and buff to a shine. the result is a gleaming finish along with a water repellant treatment on the surface.
4. The product cleans and there is no runoff into the storm or sewer drains. The waste from the exterior is recovered into the microfiber.

The following are key elements to to WATER $MART:

FIRST
A WATER $MART PRODUCT

Emulsifies dirt
Protects the surface from marring
Repels dirt from the surface using static
Leaves behind paint protection

SECOND

It is the towels! you must have good micro fiber towels!
The microfiber lifts, traps the dirt and moisture

SOME PRODUCT MODELS

Most contain water, some have polymer and wax that is ok!

Try every product you can find and don't be afraid to call the manufacterers and ask for a sample!

STEAM

Steam technology has been around for quite some time and has been widely used in the detailing industry for interiors. This method of cleaning reduces the amount of chemicals that would normally be used for interior cleaning.

Most recently further technology and past experiments by many have used steam on the exterior to clean and remove dirt from a painted surface as well as superior cleaning results for wheels and rims.

PLEASE NOTE THAT EXTREME CARE MUST BE USED FOR THE EXTERIOR USE!

When combined with the right product and use on the exterior it does yield great results.

Ambient air temps are also a factor as well for cleaning in an outdoor setting.

PLEASE NOTE

We are strictly detailers and are not selling any type of product to the public and choose to disseminate this information for public use and education.

If there are any questions please feel free to contact me anytime for my door is open to all!

I've been using this method for the last few years on my cars, I only use water on my daily drive because of road salt and stuff. A great product to use if you do want to use to much water or just being lazy is Optimum No Rinse.
Check out Optimum No Rinse demo:

Thanks for opening up the dialogue!

Optimum No-rinse is great but does not leave a great shine like many of the other waterless products i've used in the past.

David at Optimum makes some really great products which i use specifically in my shop exclusively.

Correct, but if you start with a great shine then there is no problem or if you are going to polish and wax then it would not matter. By the way I also like using No Rinse as a lube when claying

Thumbs up Re: Eco/Green detailing tips!

For most of the time when dealing with a common customers car which most times I am faced with a problematic paint finish I sometimes opt to use a waterless wash to see what i am faced with and how much compounding and polishing is needed.

I need to really see the reflection of the paint which aids me in the proper assessment of the paint finish. Combining this with an electronic paint guage gives me a clear view as to what i have to do to correctly recondition the painted surface.

For a vehicle like yours there are waterless wash products with and without polymer wax so using one without would be used on a vehicle with a great paint finish like yours.

With the bucket and wash method with optimum no rinse while washing the car and placing your wash mitt or microfiber back into the same pail it can lead to scratching due to the particles and dirt previously removed from the surface and being put back into the bucket and then re introduced onto the surface of the vehicle again.

It's easier to use a spray waterless wash and a microfiber without the bucket.

Many years ago when my father ran this business (He operated a detail shop in huntington for over 45 years) we would keep a bucket with whitewater kerosene and water to wash a car similar to the optimum no rinse method.....can't do that now but that was the old school way!

There are also some natural products out there on the market that are formulated to work like kerosene and water (coconut & soy) which are ingredients that give a great shine as well on a vehicle's surface. the combo of coconut and soy mimic a solvent like kerosene.

With that said there is no clear cut method but do what works best for you.

Your right about using a mitt or microfiber towel and just using the same bucket may lead to scratches, but what I do is I have 1 bucket with Optimum and another with just water that I wash my mitt in.
And even with our small cars I'll use a total of 4gl of mix.

By the way I checked out your web site very impressive seems like you guys know what your doing, I have 4 cars myself plus 3 cars that belong to my kids that I love to detail, but sometimes it gets a bit much for me, I just may come to you this spring.

I must be the odd man out here or as you may call "non eco-friendly" but when I wash my car I probably use at least 100 gallons of water.. And with washing and waxing it weekly I guess now I know why my water bill has gone up since owning the Crossfire..
