this is a common problem. I had this happen to my ML320 (same engine as a Crossfire). It is not a big deal to fix yourself if you are out of warrenty. You can get the sensor at at a import parts store cheaper than a dealer. It is located at the rear of the engine at the top near the bell housing. Unclip it and remove two screws which if I remember right are torx. Pop in the new one and you are back on the road in about 15 minutes. Keep this in mind if a dealer tries to charge $ hundreds.

It is one bolt, E8 torx, to remove the Crank Position Sensor. The plug has a lock that faces the passenger side fender. Press the top of the lock and pull the connector off. Pull the bolt and dont drop it and then slide the sensor out. Install is reverse order. It is very easy. Good luck.

Make sure you do this with a cold engine.

MikeR,

Thanks for clarifying. It has been about five years since I replaced one of these and was going by memory. Regarless, this is an easy fix that most owners could do themselves in just a few minutes.

Just a tip, you can get the exact same part from some foriegn parts auto stores. Most of the big name auto stores don't stock it. It was cheaper to buy at the parts store than at a dealer. another tip is to understand how the connector disconnects and it is hard to see. You can pratice on the cam position sensor which looks and mounts the same and has the same connector. This sensor is easily visible at the front right bank of the engine.

crankshaft sensor is located in the right back side looking at the engine from the front . it only has one e8 torx screw if u look in the back right side next to transmisson n engine. To make sure that is the problem if u dont have a scanner simply unplug it n replug it n ur check engine light will turn off thats only if ur check engine light is on the reason ur check engine light will turn off its becuase the sensor is not hot.next jus get new sensor. unscrew old one unplug it put new sensor rescrew it and replug it to the new one ur CF will b ready to ride easy fix hopes this helps .

These sensors have proven to be such a common problem, maybe one without the MB star is worth a try!

You guys rock! This is what happened to my car today! Luckily I have my extended warranty on the car! It's nice to know that it's easy to replace.
Thanks!

Remember I am a chick and not mechanically inclined! Though if it happens again I might look into replacing it myself!

Default crankshaft sensor

I finally got my car back Thursday from Chrysler and thank god for my extended warranty! I only had a $100.00 deductible but if I hadn't.....It would have been almost $800.00!!! I guess I made the right choice to sign up for the extended warranty when I bought the car.
