Schedule Maintenance B; (- 51,900)
Uhm. yeeah.
I have 'searched' the forum. so don't jump.
I haven't seen any car being this high.
Should I be worried? I mean seriously, that is a crap ton of overdue miles.
Should I take it in immediately? Where? Chrysler or Mercedes?
The CARFAX only showed when the car was purchased and the first odometer reading - 33 miles.
The car now has 76,9xx on it.
WTH.
I got this from another thread, and the maintenance book (came with the manual booklet, not filled out)
The car runs great, I think. I don't think anything major is wrong with it.
My dad's friend is a mechanic, and we all checked the oil, it definitely is NOT old oil.

I think you have 3 choices here:
1. Go to the dealer and have them pull it up on the computer to see if they have a mileage record of service.
2. Have the oil changed, or do it yourself, and reset the FSS.
3. Reset the FSS and drive it till it indicates service due.

The Oil looks darn new, so I reset the FSS using this:
worked swell.
It makes sence, if the owner before me did the oil changes and things and just didn't know how to changed the FSS, it could have racked up that many miles, no?
1. Turn key to the ON/RUN position.
2. Within one second press the ****/button twice.
3. The present status for days or distance is displayed.
Within 10 seconds turn the key to OFF/
LOCK.
4. Press and hold the ****/button, while turning
the key to ON/RUN again. The present status for
days or distance is displayed once more. Continue
to hold the ****/button.
After approximately 10 seconds, a signal sounds and
the display shows 7,000 miles (Canada: 11,000 km) for
approximately 10 seconds.
5. Release the ****/button.2. Within one second press the ****/button twice.

If the car seems sound then just enjoy it and maintain it going forward.
If ya want to be certain go to a dealer that has trained mechanics and have a service schedule B done.
Howard, like any used car with miles on it, there will be maintenance. Since you don't know if any maintenance has been done, just have your mechanic do the usual once over. He will know what to look for. At this point, I would spend the money to have the tranny serviced, brake fluid, and whether you think the oil is good or not, change the oil. All this is for your enjoyment of the car...fluids is the life blood of any car...and if you aren't 100% sure, then change them...cheap investment...
I agree with Doc, but I think it is much more likely that the services were done, but whoever did them was unfamiliar with the XF and therefore did not reset the FSS...
Where should I take it to get it serviced?
I don't really want to deal with the dealership again.
Mercedes or Chrysler? or somewhere else?

Honestly Howard, I would take it to any Euro shop that is good and services a lot of Mercedes. The engine M112 is very common and most mercedes techs should know them really well. As far as the rest of the car, if they are good, they will be fine, but some things may require special tools they may not have....
I've got a quick question about this. Does the Service B indicator only come on after you hit the mark, or will it count down to the time required? If so, how can I tell if it is counting down or counting over the mark?
