Default Engine light...

My check engine light keeps coming on.........last time the code was P0180; now P0128. Not low coolant. I switched thermostats over a year ago to TVT's altered thermo and it hasn't been a problem.......until now? Running at just above the halfway point in temp.

Any ideas?

thanks

That seems high for a modded stat.

the po128 cel is due to the engine taking longer than the ecu likes to warm up to the 195* F. becuase my teemps in tn are so low rite now im running some cardboard in front of the radiaitor to block the cold air

Mine does that as well when it is really cold but his temp guage reading above half way seems high with a low temp stat.

By the way, I was in Nashville when you guys got hit with that storm a couple weeks ago on a Friday trying to get out at the airport. Lots of fun.

i realize his temps are in range. what im saying is if it takes longer than normal for the engine to reach the operating temp, say 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes the ecu will trip the p0128 cel.

I know what you are saying as mine does the same thing. I am meantioning a side note as to the guage running above half way. Totally separate and just think that is unusual.

WHen I designed my 170 and 180 stat conversions, I found that the 170 and cool weather were not compadiable, thus the change to the 180 stat element. The 180 will trip up in really cold weather code but the zeitronix will reset it on the fly, NBT. Woody and Enjoy.

i see what you mean. i have the pte engineering 180 tstat and my temps run slightly above 80*C but i have a supercooler in front of my radiator and i believe that was what is raising my temps. with the -10 * fan mod my temps are in the basement during this cold spell. when it warms above 50 my temps are back in the low 80*C range

I thought the weather was the problem also, but being in Florida, I thought it wasn't cold enough to trip the sensor. Thanks for the information...I bought a cheap code reader, so I can turn the light off. Here's waiting for warmer weather...........
