Hi all,

I'm still trying to resolve a squeaky trunk lid and came across the following TSB's:

• TSB #0200804 -- RATTLE SOUND FROM REAR. *TT (NHTSA ID #10011548, NOVEMBER 08 2004)
• TSB #2302504 -- SQUEAK/CREAK SOUND FROM REAR SPOILER. *MJ (NHTSA ID #10008747, JULY 05 2004)

I'm not sure which actually applies to my scenario, but it sounds like someone is taking 2 tiny pieces of styrofoam and rubbing them together when I'm driving down the road. Definitely pronounced near the trunk lid on bumpy roads and you can really hear it when you go over large potholes or bumps.

For those of you who have been to the dealer to fix this problem, what was the solution? I can't exactly fix this problem while I'm driving, so anyone have any suggestions to try? I saw a post mentioning it might be a good idea to wrap tape around the hinge, which doesn't do anything to fix my problem.

Well, the dealer didn't fix mine. I wrapped some electrical tape around the metal bar that the trunk lid latches on to and that was that. Fixed.

I would try to fix this issue yourself with the "electrical tape" remedy for the trunk latch and getting some automotive grade foam and attaching to the inside of your trunk where the rubber bumpers on the latch contact the bottom. This same rattle was what I took my car to the dealer to fix and all they did was lower the bumpers(you can see they are adjustable) so the trunk moved less over bumps, etc. Though this fixed the problem, less than 24hrs later I hit a bump that opened my hatch, it wouldn't close again until I took it back to the dealer(then the rattle returned....). Moral of the story- this forum is so much more helpful than a dealer!

Thanks for the advice guys... I'll try wrapping more tape on the contact point... it didn't fix it for me the first time but maybe I taped the wrong spot or something.

I'll report back with my results.

 

I had this problem on my 08, the dealer adjusted the spoiler, problem fixed no matter how rough the road is.

 

Same happened to my 2007 Crossfire Limited. Solution......silicone spray where tab meets rim/trim around hatch opening. Not a big deal. Good day!

 

As always done by late comers. I just want to apologize for the late reply..to make it clear this is not necro threading...I just need some help with regards to tsb..i'm sure there are lots of experts here who have further knowledge about such thing...i owned chevy silverado 2001. to be honest. this is not a brand new . i bought it from a guy in MN and now it has a problem on the alternator...i ask him for the TSB so as to claim the guarantee from the dealer..but it's gone..any suggestions on what would i do to solve this issue? Any help could highly be appreciated...Thanks in advance.

 

Ok what are you saying? Whats gone? I believe if you take it to a chevy dealer they will run the vin to see if any recals are due or have been done. They can also pull up a list of tsbs to see if it applies but Im not certain they will pay for it. or just google 2001 chevy silverado tsb's/alternator and see what you get. the more info you get on your own will help you when you go to the dealer
