Default Ash tray repairs

The first is the mod that I had to do to the ashtray to replace the spring and retainer that I had to cut off to clear the underside of the Double Din radio unit that I fitted.
It consists of a magnetic cabinet latch that pushes the ashtray open just enough to grab it and pull it out by hand, it also holds the ashtray in place when closed.
The steel washer that the magnet attracts is levelled with epoxy and screwed in position. There is a piece of Gorilla tape stuck to the magnet to reduce the strong magnetic attraction to the washer that my latch had.
The ABS plastic base attached to the underside of ashtray tray body using acetone which gave the strongest bond to the parts. The ABS could be replaced by a piece of Polycarbonate or the PC/ABS plastic used in many of the console components if you had some at hand.
Polycarbonate and PC/ABS are easily joined using simple acetone.

This mod could be used to fix those ashtrays that will not stay locked closed, in those cases, the plastic (ABS) base would be attached to the stationary sidewalls beside the ashtray sidewalls, the latch would not be visible in a similar view as is shown below, you would just see the sidewall and the edge of the base you had attached.
There would be no need to remove the spring assembly that automatically extends the ashtray as it would still work after the magnet was free of the washer attached to the ashtray. Adding the magnetic latch to one of the units that will not stay closed will also allow the light to stay in place and work as normal.

This modification is best seen described in this YouTube video made by a member turboomni08 which I found after I had done my modification. CLICK

I will add other ashtray repairs done by others at a later date when I have some time. When complete the post will be turned into a PDF file.

This worked great for me but I think I found out why mine will not stay closed, looks like the tip of my arm is missing, anyone agree?
