Pretty sure my expansion valve crapped out. Going to replace it and the recover/dryer.
what is the Freon and oil amount to put into a vacuumed system?

 

That is all spelled out in the service manual, andd if you are going to do this yourself, you'd better read thru that entire chapter - there are numerous warnings about the procedure and products to use, including what oil to use.

The reason no one has answered is, well, I doubt ANY of us walks around knowing the answers to your question.

Again, read thru the ENTIRE chapter and plan to recharge the system annually after this.

 

What makes you think the expansion valve has gone south?

If and when you open the system/repair, you'll have to 'evacuate' with a suction pump for at least 1 hour to remove all traces of moisture in the closed/sealed system. After that (with the vacuum steady & still on the system without changing), you'll have to add the freon until a stabilized low pressure is achieved. Using the correct gauges and the chart for the temperature/humidity, you'll add or substract freon (system running) until the system is correctly filled for the load calculated. Freon in the system never goes bad, if freon is again needed (later) at any time, you have a leak. Sometimes, small minor leaks can be sealed (one time only) with the correct system sealant, and then refilled again to it's normal capacity using the temperature/pressure chart for the system/time it is running (load). Backyard mechanics have shortcuts BUT these things sometimes cause other problems that wind up destroying/contaminating components like the compressor or system piping. Good luck!

Expansion valve is suspect from hooking up gauges. This was a year ago so I don’t remember the numbers, but high side was good low side was low.

 

Have gauges and vacuum pump. Not my first dive into ac and I have a few certified friends.

 

Good to know you have the equipment! Are you sure you don't have any moisture in the system? That'll freeze at the expansion valve point where the high drops through the orifice. Just an idea... Good luck!

Thanks, the moisture idea is why I will also change the dryer.

 

Why not draw down the system and recharge then? Might be a lot less expensive a fix. No parts, except time & freon.

All ready have the parts. They were not very expensive.
