Default 50K service

Hi all, been a while. My xf is at 50k now (04 model) I have just been quoted £545 for a one spanner service.
I recall a long while back I found a pdf on here somewher that detailed what was done at each service. SO two questions really. Has anyone got a list of whats done at what service? I though the one spanner service was just a oil change

Thanks

Lee

From page 247 of the owners' manual:

Your Flexible Service System (FSS) — see Understanding
Your Instrument Panel section — should give you an
exact indication of when your vehicle should be scheduled
for service and which schedule to follow.

Additional Periodic Maintenance
items should also be

performed beyond the items listed in the following charts
to assure the optimum performance of your Crossfire.

SCOPE OF WORK FOR “A” SCHEDULE

MAINTENANCE SERVICE

Oil Change

Change oil and replace filter

Maintenance

Lubricate hood hinges, latch, and secondary latch

Reset FSS Display

Function Check

Horn, hazard warning flashers, turn signals, and indicator

lamps

Headlamps and exterior lighting

Windshield wipers and washer system

Inspection

Check front and rear brake pads for lining thickness

Check tires for damage and general condition

Check tire inflation pressures and correct if necessary

Fluid Levels

Check fluid levels for the following systems and correct if

necessary. Should there be a loss of fluid that cannot be
explained by regular use, trace and eliminate the cause.

Engine cooling system (check corrosion inhibitor/

antifreeze)

Hydraulic brake system

Power steering system

Windshield washer system

250 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES

8

Lee,

Seems a bit steep for a service because I was quoted £330 for a "B" service at my local Chrysler dealer.

If you know a local specialist who can carry out your service (correctly) then here is a link to resetting the service shedule

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...=reset+service

I know I am a lucky sod but one of my best mates works at a main dealer and I have just paid £77.00p for a main "B" service including genuine Chrysler parts and Mobil 1 oil, it's called "mates rates". He does go out on a limb with the oil and he carries out the service during his breaks.

Best thing to do is follow a mechanic home, find out the pub he drinks in and buy him a few pints.

Alan.

I have just been quoted £575 for a £50K 4 year service whic apparently includes changing 12 spark plugs at £8+ each + VAT.

Can any one confirm tis is in the ballpark?

Many thanks

That sounds about right.
As said all 12 spark plugs need replaced and they are really expensive.
You can buy the spark plugs off E-Bay for £5.36 each including vat.
I would go to a local independent garage now it's out of warranty.
I would also buy my oil from somewhere like Cosco £37 for 8 litres when the dealer will charge you something like £80.
Have your air filters and fuel filters been done lately if not they miight need done as well?
The air and fuel filters are really expensive as well.
I think the fuel filter is around £80 and the air filters are around £50.

So I got the double wrench -94 symbol when I started my car & went & got a load of Mobil 1 & a Fram oil filter (which I'll probably be returning & replacing with a fleece filter) - I'm at a little over 4k on my last service. Those of you who have had your XFs a while, how often do you change your oil? I do mostly city driving, unfortunately. Any suggestions?

The Air Filters (as are all other filters) are Merc Dealer parts for the SLK320 and are very cheap. I bought:
Oil filter £8.99
Air filters £23.00
Fuel filter £13.00
As norrie says shop around for the s/plugs and oil.

But if you do have to use a dealer, at least you can see how much profit you are paying them.
You can also go to any reputable mechanic, take him all the parts and just pay him his time.
If you lived closer to me I would do it for nothing! (or may be just the price of a pint!)

I will change it as the service schedule wants - every 10K or every 12 months. It is top quality oil and it will work well for the recommended mileage. The beauty of a top mounted oil filter is you can change this without dropping the oil, so I will pop one in every 6 months just to help keep the oil clean.
