Midlands Meet 4th/5th July 2009
*************** CANCELLED **************

Turns out this is a difficult weekend for most folk. If any of the "locals" want to go to "cars in the park" and meet up then contact me as I will be going anyway.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the other commitments people have and difficulties with accomodation in the area ( everything is booked up !! ) I am downsizing this to meet up on the Saturday and go to Cars in the Park on the Sunday, or if you want to just meet up on the Sunday. I envisage this as a visit to see the cars only, rather than display as it needs some organising if we were to display.
There is accomodation Saturday evening in a hotel 3 miles away , the Holiday Inn Express :
Express By Holiday Inn LICHFIELD Hotels | LICHFIELD | Welcome
£40 - £45 a night including continental breakfast ( next door to a McDonalds).
Let me know if you are going to this.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Lichfield ( where I live ) is blessed with real ale bars etc and a number of tourist attractions. The park is next to the town center so most things are within 10 minutes walk
Details of "Cars in the Park". This is an annual event that raises money for charity and comprises an eclectic mix of cars in , as the name suggests, a park !
There could be a Crossfire group. We would have a marked area and I have access to a Marquee. The event attracts thousands of visitors who all come along and admire the cars. There is an arena for displays and you can camp if you wish. Unless anyone is keen to do this I am currently saying that with all the organising required we don't display.
Anyone turning up to display at the event would need to register beforehand and pay to cover insurance etc and help contribute to the finances of running the event. The cost this year was £4 a car.
Link here : Website Template
I have placed a couple of pictures from this year in my gallery.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Suggested Itinerary :
Saturday evening : optional meet up for beer and a meal.
Sunday : visit "Cars in the Park" and for those that want to wander off into Lichfield it is a 800 yard walk. Finish up with a cruise.
Please let me know if this is of interest and if you have any questions let me know.
Regards,
Paul

Forgot to mention that they don't start taking bookings until "Christmas time". I put the post up to help decide what people may want to do. Such things as be there for two days, or just one day, how much time people may want away from the event and generally work out what we want to do with a view to a decision by Januaryish.
It occured to me an alternative "do it ourselves" event following the theme of "Crossfires and Stately Homes" there is Shugborough Hall not far away.
cheers,
Paul

Add Jane and Ken to that thingy list! ....A thought regarding possable accommadition for those planing to do an over nighter..
I have viewed the link and there is currently plenty of resonable priced accommadition on offer..I suggest that come January lastest, if planing to stay over we should book well in advance, and perhaps we could all arrange stay in the same hotel..providing there is food and real ale on sale!!

I get the hint ! ( ref post on other thread )
It is probably decision time. The details are at the top of this thread. I will attempt to describe what would be expected. If we go for this event then it runs over two days. Folk could either be there for both or just one day. The idea would be to turn up in the morning park in our alloted space and then thousands of paying members of the public turn up. You are really expected to leave your car there all day. But can wander off as there should be a few of us there to look after the cars and answer any questions.
Things to do :
Your thoughts, comments and questions please !!!!

Just count me in - sounds like a camping weekend! Can we camp in the park near the cars? Are barbaques aloud ? What time does the pub open ?
Steve,
there is camping in the park ( near the Morrisons end) I'm not sure about Barbies,, I will check.....and the real ale pub next to the park is open most of the time and has a cheese counter !

Its a yes from Jane & Ken. If its a two day event could we not have one day at the show and the other at Lichfield and the stately home? It would also give those doing a one day visit the option of which to attend.
If I mention the word CAMPING to Jane she will probably leave me..so its a wee comfortable hotel/Inn for us, close to the event for the weekend with good Ale and food.

Ken,
there are lots of B&Bs and hotels, I will post some choices over the next couple of days. I suspect it gets very busy that weekend as there are a lot of folk here for that event, I will do some research.
It is quite practical for doing just one day, I'm not sure if it will go down well if we all only did the one day and no-one was there at all the other day. I will sound them out. There may be a problem with the commitment at such an event. Although every year I have been there have been completely empty areas and I don't know why, it could be that others only do one day.. I will find out.
To establish the size pitch we want I will need anticipated numbers and everyone attending will need to book in advance for insurance purposes.
I will do some research and come back.

Just read the entry forms and they clearly ask the question :
"I will be attending on Saturday 4th July .. and /or Sunday 5th July..."
so no problem on that front, I suggest we go for one day at Cars in the Park and one day sight seeing, maybe at the local stately home.

can we elect to book our places at the park for the two days and then on the Sunday we can meet up there and depart when ready for a run out to somewhere nice for some pics. We will probably have to get permission to visit a stately home en-mass.
they say that you can't move during the day as there are thousands of people milling around. I have experienced similar rules at steam rallies where bizarely I get involved with setting up an Astronomy stall and we can't drive around between certain times. Health & Safety/Insurance issues.
I suggest the following :
1. Friday evening is an optional turn up at a hotel/pub/campsite etc. Personally I have totally miscalculated as it is my daughters birthday and on Friday I intend to be at Goodwood festival of speed. If anyone else is going there we could have a convoy back to the midlands !!! I intend to be around to meet up ny mid evening.
2. Saturday we exhibit at Cars in the Park and have a meal/beer in the evening.
3. Sunday we have a drive out and end up at Shugborough Hall or similar ( I will get permission in advance)
This allows people to choose which part or parts of the weekend to attend.
