Default Grilles

Thinking about fitting a grille like this, but not sure. What do you think of them?

I've never really liked the wide polished expanse/surround. Other than that, I'm still making my own. I like them.

Cool Re: Grilles

HHhmm, not sure that I like these upper grills, to me it just looks like a car that some ones tried to customise and these grill look a bit home made to me. The bottom grills though do look great and nicely finished off. Sorry if some dont agree, but its down to personal taste as allways!
Cheers Steve

Hi Jon
I'm with Steve uk on this , In that picture the new grilles just do not fit to the bumper the gapping looks home made (it could just be the angle of the picture ??). I think this type of grille could do with being fitted from behide the openings so giving a better finish/look . Go on Jon get your spray gun out body colour (sorry color) the way to go .

Cheers

Andy

I've had mine installed for 5-6 months.

I am very pleased with the quality and fit and it looks great.

Go for it!

Mine does not fit that way. In person, it looks much better. Has a great performance look. In the picture, it looks like it is a large open mouth but in person, I don't feel it looks that way at all.

Each to their own..I personally like it, but I do feel that Crossfire customizing in the US is totally different to our's in the UK.

Perhaps its due to the greater number of Xfire owners, chrome wheels, black wheels..gull wing doors etc. Its a shame the red interior trim was not available in the UK, matched with the black body colour would have looked fantastic...but that's just my opinion.

And Jon (The Bodyman) would have certainly purchased a white Xfire had it been available in the UK..

Ken.

hey, Max...you shouldv'e seen the metal laying around in my garage trying to make a new grille...I finally gave the expanded metal to my neighbor's son, for his ricer...that angle is a killer...I used bar aluminum for the frame...attached wire mesh design...but you need to reinforce somehow...more metal just didn't do it any favors...so, I think plastic...but its too expensive for the locals (plastic extruders) to take on....so good luck...keep us posted, you ole' tire salesman...LOL

I wasn't kiddin'. I'm this far, but still need to build a bending jig for the mesh. It's .062" SST wire and stiff as he!!. The frame is .035" wall 3/8" SSTand fits (inset) like a glove. I'll have it done by Spring Dragon. C'mon down! This will not need reinforcement. It might survive a deer.

make two of them...don't be selfish...I like what you did in the middle...my needswings cai needs to breath...so I didn't want anything to obstruct it...and that is the middle brace, I take it..nice job, can't wait to see it...well, I quess that isn't a brace, but instructions for your grille...but It looks alot like the one I did..but the metal trying to form fit to the brace is murder...oh, the wire mesh is the same as well...tried to tac weld and bend as you go...but didn't stay true to form.....good luck...

I was thinking of tack-as-you-go too, but realized I would have to make a "shell" to fit the frame. The mesh is just too stiff. It would pull the frame out of true. Hence the bending jig. If all goes to plan, before welding the mesh on, I'm going to put it in my brake and put vertical "creases" in it to extend the hood strakes-something the others should have. IMHO.
As for making the bottom tabs and the top plates, to attach to the car, I have a full machine shop with a 52" brake and shear to fab the stainless to spec. We'll see...
