Default Looking at Crossfires in the UK, any pointers

Hi all, I've been reading as much as I can on Crossfires and decided to take a look at some over the weekend.

Could anybody on here give me some pointers on what to keep an eye out for, do the UK models have any major issues?

Should all cars have 18" / 19" wheels and what sort of prices are you guys paying for the 255 rears ?

Cheeers in advance.....(I hope).

Might even be a regular on here, once the weekend is over

Hi DR_D

I think it the same for all used cars , I first have a look at the overal body looking for panel damage/door gaps & over spray (in the door/boot openings) but take your time go round the car 4 or 5 times , As this is a car that can be a pig to reverse check the rear qtr panels (i missed it on ours , But it was repaired very well). Check Wheel (Rim) damage , I would try & get as low mileage as you can , Engine as normal check of leaks etc ,try to hear the engine cold & warm , Tires for the rears are about £150 upwards each . Ther are loads of Xfire for sale up & down the UK so you could get a great deal at the moment . Just wish i'd waited until now to buy

Cheers

Andy

Yeah take your time to get a good one as there are a lot of cars with low mileage.
The wheels are over £500 each and a set of tyres will cost at least £600.
Be sure to check everything works especially the seat heaters as there has been many reports about faulty ones.
When driving the car check for wind noise from the side windows and check that the car tracks true.
Make sure it's got full service history and ask what kind of oil is used in the engine as it should have fully synthetic oil in it and even with low mileage cars the oil shoul get changed at least once a year and when your talking £100 for an oil change a lot of people might not get it done.
If you are after a manual gearbox be very careful to check you can get reverse easily and it dosen't jump out of first gear and it dosen't feel notchy.
Personally I would get an auto as they are better boxes and you don't loose any performance.
I could have bought a manual much cheaper than the auto but after reading about a lot of horror stories on here decided against it.

Oh and one last thing black is the fastest colour.

Cheers all, will let you know how things go.

Just had an insurance quote and worked out the road tax on an 04 plate, not as bad I thought.....so fingers crossed.

Just hope the weather holds off.

I'm close to Stoke/Newcastle/Manchester, if any of you guys know of any nice 04 plates around 8K in the surrounding areas please let me know.... (will get you a beer at the next meeting )

Thanks again.

I think we pay about £280.
It's not that high an insurance group.

What are you thinking of getting?
An SRT6?

Hi Norrie. I've always (see my gallery) have V8's , so unless I can locate the rare V8 Crossfire..it will be the SRT6..I'm looking at a couple, but can't afford to deal at the prices I'm being offered for mine.

Have to admit I'd like an SRT6 myself.
I looked at getting a new one a while back but it was £10,000 to change and just couldn't justify it.

Hi Bamp

Red is faster
If only they did a RED SRT6 ,now that would be an upgrade to go for , As red is the fastest colour (sorry color) .

UK-Ken you will just have to stick with a Black SRT6.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy
It would be yes to a black SRT6 Coupe ( not a roadster) at the right price, but currently I would have to take a huge loss on my Xfire..and I won't do that.

But I will keep looking for the right deal...but only in black.

Doctor_D,
if you are looking to get one from a dealer then the place I bought mine from has got one at £8,495, 27,000 miles

http://www.hatfields.co.uk/Chryslers...Btnsubmit.y=13

in Bury. Personally I had a good experience and it depends on whether you feel it is worth paying maybe a little more for buying from the dealers or not.

BTW I am thinking of swapping my standard one for the same colour roadster SRT, if I can manage it without Anne ( my wife ) spotting that the car has changed

That's a good buy from a dealer that and you should get some kind of warranty with it.
Plus if it's up at £8500 you would probably get it for £8000 with no trade in.

Hi all,

Been out all weekend driving the pants of Crossfire’s and I must say.... "I'VE GOT TO HAVE ONE"

The wife is totally converted and has already warned me, if I don't buy one, she will.

Only driven 2 manuals so far and both had problems getting into second gear, plus the clutch’s seemed very sloppy. Both of these cars also had major rim damage, which seems to be an issue with quite a few cars I've viewed.

Had one car dealer ask me to make an offer on a black one, but it was suffering badly for its age, I've never seen so many swirls on a black car.

Talking of black cars, cheers for the offer Ken.......I'm off to view your gallery now.

We went to see the car linked by beeblebrox (cheers); it looked quite nice but under close inspection the wheels had all been skimmed and re-finished and the driver’s door didn't line up

Found one SRT.......but it looked like somebody had taken it offroad. Nice engine though....

After all the driving around, we found a convertible locally advertised today. It's not what I want, but it's a very nice example.

Two things have got me so far, why have most of the cars got very low miles for their age and why does the boot (when open) always seem to show signs of rusting around the rectangle area. Is this a drain fault?

Thanks again for all your replies and help, I'm now off to scan the private ads.
