This has happen twice in a row now. In the morning and just as I start up, the spoiler pops up. Just need to lower it on the button and its all OK. Odd!

Does your car have the original battery? If so, that could be the problem.
Lots of 04's are starting to have battery issues.

You should try bump starting at a low speed as at 65mph the wing will come up .

I find it amusing that the Crossfire's wing automatically deploys when the battery is getting old.

 

Yes. I think its the original one. Its only done 7500 miles. Time to change it then.

Yesterday afternoon my 2005 Crossfire LTD roadster sounded a little sad when I started it. Then as I drove home I noticed the wing was up and going down. (I live 1.1 miles from work and had not driven over 35 mph). Then this morning my car sounded even worse but started right up. The wing was going up as I backed out of the garage. I had to use the switch to lower the wing. Now at lunch the starter only grunted but would not turn over enough to start. Dash board was all lit up as normal (odometer, clock and idiot lights) and door locks worked fine to relock the car. The battery is only about 14 months old. Is it my RCM or has the battery already given up? Alternator? What do you guys think?

 

The spoiler going up is usually the sign of a dying battery. Get a battery soon.

 

If you haven't done the RCM fix yet, do it. But also check for corroding battery post. They may look fine, but when I took mine off, the insides of the connectors were caked with white dust, but looked normal on the battery. The cars are very quarky as far as battery power goes and a clean contact is essential.

 

With a newish battery I would look for a bad contact or a corroded battery cable first. You do not need a lot of power to operate the pump for the locks but the starter motor needs a lot.

Found this old thread. Come on. You guys are pulling my leg! A weak battery makes the wing go up when car is started?

I am most skeptical, but the bizzare thing to is my Xfire does sound slow on start up when the dang wing goes up! Anybody ever look into this to see exactly what the car was doing to launch its wing? Is this a byproduct of something else or did someone actually figure out how to make a weak battery indicator?

 

NOT pulling your leg. This is a common symptom of a tired battery.
Why it happens I haven't a clue.

 

It's true, a weak battery on an NA and one of the first symptoms is the spoiler popping up. The control for the wing must require a strong voltage to work properly.

 

Its all true and what a great feature. The spoiler pops up to let you know its time to change the battery. I love Mercedes :-)

Reminding me of some urban legend now.. as this isn't "always" the case..

 

One word from your wife keeps you in your place, that's why her car has the clear markers on it. So that one word keeps the spoiler in place.

 

This is a great forum. I was all kinds of pissed about the wing going up! OK, I'll get a new battery. Shouldn't complain - my Xfire is an 05 and it has the original battery so that isn't bad service at all. Any idea who made that original battery?

 

OK, I'll put my 2¢ in. A new battery cured my spoiler issues too.

 

Johnson Controls made the OEM Varta. They pretty much supply most of the batteries made for the US market. A list of just some of the batteries they mfg:
Duralast, Optima, Varta, Autocraft, Motorcraft, AC Delco, DieHard, Interstate, Kirkland, Everstart, Prostart, Bosch, Champion, Energizer, LHT, Heliar
