Insurance
Well, I’ve come to that point of the year where the insurance needs to be sorted. Being a stingy type, I’m a bit annoyed that the premium has gone up somewhat this year. I’m not going to pay upwards of £660 if I can help it.
So far, I’m down to around the £330 mark for fully comprehensive. Can anyone recommend any cheaper options? Being self-employed, there is a portion of business mileage involved, but not a huge amount. I estimate around 1000 miles a year if that.

We also use Swiftcover.
Our premium is £296.59, this includes:
Fully comp cover
Legal cover
Personal Accident cover
Replacement car
Breakdown cover
We are getting on a bit at 50 for my wife and 54 for myself but this is about 60% of the price we paid to NFU Mutual before changing and we both have full NCB.
Got the cover online.

At the moment, I am finding SwiftCover the cheapest too. Iggy Pop is advertisng them on Sky TV during Futurama and Stargate. He seems old enough for a Crossfire, you know. *KOFF* *Splutter*
I just had comparethemarket.com phoning me up wanting to throw a lot of quotes at me over the phone, and no doubt pushing me into paying now.
I’m taking the cheap quoters on the comparison sites and going to them direct as well, just to see what I can save that way (comparing the comparisons...). Swift Cover is around £290 direct, or £330 via moneysupermarket.com. You have to watch the excess though - comparison websites seem to assume £500 - I’ve yet to see a returned quote for less than that. Swift Cover’s excess is £250 on their web site, and it’s cheaper. SwiftCover’s APR is around 27% on monthly payments. I may have to find the full whack to save more.
The next task: tell current insurers that there is no way I am staying with them unless they can match the price. I hate this. They try to talk you into staying, and I had enough of that when I switched mobile phone carriers.

I think there is a lower age limit here - I wanted to get one when I was slightly younger so I could dodge the "midlife crisis" bullets. I failed on that one.
