You are getting the snow and we are not having any. If this is global warming, then it's not as bad as they said it was going to be.
We have your rain, that's a fair swap.

Am I correct in thinking that all that happens is, it starts off in a higher gear..second rather than first?...so you have less revolutions when moving off.

Yes it starts out in second gear but also the gear shifting process occurs at a lower vehicle and engine speeds than in the "S" program mode.

Thats right and it is fantastic, just leave the gas peddle alone untill you have momentum then very very gentley a bit of throttle . I was amazed how well it coped with the snow.

Is that with the T/C on or off because with it on,my rear wheels both lock up and do not move in the snow. With it off the rear just slides from side to side. With this amount of snow my car is driveway bound until it all clears.

Off ......
Without snow tires on all four corners parking the car is a smart move.
Even with snow tires you are still at the mercy of idiots who may or may not have snow tires and lack the common sense required to drive safely in any conditions, especially snow.
Raised in England I know that the snow equipment used by the authorities to sand and plow the roads covered in snow is not what we need all winter here as it is rarely needed, especially in the South.
If salt is used on the roads, wash the undersides of the car as soon as possible. Rust will appear like magic in the hidden crevices under the car. Using car washes is not much good as they may filter the water but the wash water is virtually a brine solution.

What do you have for tires? If you have summer tires on you won't get to far in the snow.

You should have at least a all-season (m+s) tire if you're going to be driving in the snow.

Not worth it because the snow is only usually around for about a week...

I remember the winter before I came to Canada and it was a dandy. The snow started on Boxing Day in Potters Bar and lasted until the end of March. The country just about ground to a halt. It never got warm enough to melt the snow and it just kept piling up.
A man up the street had his motor bike hauled away with the snow, it had been covered by a snow plow, and he found it in April on the local soccer pitch when the snow piles started to melt away. He said it started first kick and he rode it home.
BBC News - How different is the winter of 2010 from 1963?

180, this week in Hertfordshire we had snow one night, about 3cm, and the whole of the county ground to a halt!!

Admittedly over here we don't have a clue what snow tyres are but, in all fairness, it's not worth losing the added performance or cost for the one week a year we would use them! (I did get stuck in a cemetery yesterday and had to get pushed out by the grave digger :-) )

You must be younger than his normal clients, he may not have bothered to help an older person, figuring they'd be back soon anyway.

Embarrasingly, I was the funeral director!!! (Although I suppose that worked in my favour as he needs me to keep him in business!!)

Yes T/C off and I am on summer tyres.

I tried with T/C on, that was no good at all. You also need to know how to drive in snow.

We got hardly any in Norfolk where I live. Got to drive it this morning on some frozen slush and it was no problem (manual roadster tc on summer tyres - roof up!. The lack of snow is annoying as my wife reckons I am a child because as soon as it falls I'm off for a drive - whatever car I've got Been using her Focus ST170 all week as mine was getting derusted on the bootlid etc. It was ok as well but we only had maybe an inch. The usual problem with driving in snow is other people who should probably be having a duvet day.
