Default Weird warbling engine noise

Hi All. New member.

Bought my 2005 Xfire a few months ago.

Pretty happy with it until yesterday when the engine started making a weird type of warbling noise. It's difficult to discribe exactly. Sounds like ... you know, after you flush the toilet and water starts to fill the tank back up again ? Something like that. Except this noise is continuous and obviously mechanical.

Very disconcerting.

Performance is so far unaffected. No warning lights on the dashboard. Mileage is only 21K plus.

But something is obviously wrong.

Does anyone know what the problem might be ?

Thanks

Is it an SRT? Apparently, (because I have no clue whatsoever lol) it sounds like it could be a bearing in the supercharger...??? Sounds awful but not too bad to fix - videos of how to do it on you tube.....hope this helps - it sounds very odd. Of course you may have a small fury animal trapped in there or something.......

No it's not an SRT. Just an ordinary coupe. I'll take it to Halfords tommorow and see what they say.

Sounds like you need a plumber not an auto mechanic.

Try contacting uk crossfires- they might be a bit more helpful.
UK Crossfires - For owners of the Chrysler Crossfire in the UK

Good luck! Let us know what it turned out to be when you find out. Would be useful incase it crops up in other cars.

Well, I'll try Halfords tomorrow and see what they say. If that doesn't work, I'll try a Merc repair shop. I used to drive a Merc before this, so I know quite a few. Reading some posts on the U.S site, I get the feeling it might be something to do with the radiator fan. But I'm only guessing. I know next to nothing about engines.

Are you hinting that we are not helpful?
We do our best with the available information.
Warbling? Toilet tank re-filling? That immediately suggests to me that Ronny Renalde is in the WC.

Not at all but he was obviously worried so I thought I would offer an additional source of info, that's all

My Ronnie Renalde comment will go over the heads of 99.99% of the forum members.

I wonder if the AC compressor is on and low on Freon, it might make a sound like you describe. The compressor runs most of the time winter or summer depending on how the controls are set. Just a thought, let us know how it turns out.

Thanks all.

I'm happy to say that Halfords fixed the problem. She's back to her old growling fiesty self, and I'm happy.

The problem turned out to be with the WATER PUMP. So suggestions to get a plumber may not have been so far fetched.

More precisely, the invoice reads "Water pump bearings worn and noisy." So they ordered in a new one and replaced it. Also "Carry out anti-freeze drain and fill." The whole thing came to 194.29 + Vat.

EDIT: Another way to discribe the problem would be a sort of sloshing, percolating noise.

Just in case it happens to you.

Peace out.

Good news its cured...And a great price...Local Chrysler main dealer to me, charges £110.00 per hour labour..hate to think what they would have charged you with the parts and vat.

Try and make some of the xfire meets..informal and good fun..view details.at www.ukcrossfires.co.uk

I thought that the $100 an hour rate here was expensive, that rate is about $180 an hour.
The Canadian $ and US $ are about par with one another at the moment, so we are buying all the things we can from the US.
Spares for cars are cheaper in the US so it is worth buying them there.
