If you want a Crossfire SRT6, it only comes in auto. Otherwise either the auto or manual are equally good. More of a fun factor of course with a manual. So it depends on what kind of driving you do. If most of your driving is in a lot of traffic, of course the auto is preferable. It's all about preference for everyone. Good luck.

tried both before i took the jump...personaly i found the manual hard work between 1st and 2nd kind of notchy if that makes sense...auto gives better mpg strangely, and as i am lazy it was no competition auto all the way.....try both and best of luck with whatever you get....chris

EPA rates the automatic higher on the MPG chart, but in real world driving, the 6 speeds usually post higher highway mileage from what I've read here on the forum.
In magazine roadtests, the manual out performs the automantic by nearly a 1/2 a second in the 1/4 mile. (But it's going to take somebody who really knows their way around manual shift to do it).
I will say this, I had the very pleasant opportunity to drive Sandman50's automatic on the Dragon last Sunday and it sure is a lot easier to drive at the limit than a manual is.
Now if it only had "paddles".
As xfchris pointed out, the manual can be notchy at times, (mostly when it's cold) but it's something most 6 speed drivers get use to.
I've had over 25 sports cars over the years, and around 15 or so Hondas with manual trannies, and I can say without a doubt, the Crossfire is the worst manual transmission I've had. That being said....I still love it. Go figure.

I prefer the manual, I do agree with the others that have posted it is not the smothest shifting manual I have owned or driven but I still prefer to shift myself. Great car either way. Best of luck.

Manuals are a lot of fun and I sure enjoyed the one that I had in my old coupe. However, the auto in the XF is the best auto that I have ever driven and it is still pretty responsive.

I have the new shift paddles that are available and just came back from the Dragon. It was so fun shifting like a F! car in and out of the turns!

I think you should try one of each as the manual has a pretty rubbish gear box by modern standards, but auto is never as much fun

The manual is not the best by any stretch of the imagination. I never slam it into gear, I just gently ease it in, getting into first can be awkward at times. It was worse, it's either getting better or I'm used to it. If you want a nice gearbox buy a Mazda, or get the auto.

I wanted the manual, love driving it. I don't generaly race around to much or try to post any record times, so the manual is much more fun for me.

I'm a stick man, but I was faster zipping around town with the auto. Ye,a I"ve owned an auto Roadster and a Stick Roadster.

Now, the stick IS kinda "stiff" or "sloppy", but gotta tell ya, I drove a Base Roadster with 120,000 miles on it last December and gotta say - the car ran great and the transmission was noticeably smoother.

These cars just need some MILES on them! Got almost 60,000 on mine - since last weekend, about 121 miles of those are DRAGON MILES.

(from now on, EVERY thread I"m in becomes a thread about the Dragon.)

I should add that I disliked the manual so much at first, I went with an Auto.

In just over 1 1/2 years .... had to get a stick! If you are a stick guy.... get one.

I think he's being sarcastic, that is, his remark is an example of hyperbole.
(Does that mean he's being hyperbolic?)

Another hyperbolic reply : BUMMER !

( even though I tend to agree : there are lots of drivers in the US that have NO business driving a stick shift )
