Unhappy Spoiler/Roof & DRB3 problems!

Hi,

I have an '05 Roadster 50k miles, that's recently developed two faults that I suspect are related, (not a mechanic as you can probably tell!).

1. The spoiler not longer works - i.e. the raise/lower button in the centre console does nothing and the red light is permenantly flahsing. The spoiler is no longer speed-activated either, I just get the alarm beep at 85 mph +.
2. The electric roof no longer works - I only get the alarm beep when I try and activate it.

I've taken the car to the dealer @ Ashton-in-Makerfield, but what I'm being told is that they don't have a "DRB3" from Chrysler to be able to carry the work out - something about a change in the tool loan program

They told me to supposed to speak to Chrysler Customer Relations to push them to send this thing to the dealer ??? Just tried the number and all I get is a "we are closed due to technical problems"

Anyway, I thought I'd put a quick post on here to see if anyone is aware of either a dealership equipped with a DRB3 (whatever it is!) or knows of a good garage capable of diagnosing/fixing this fault?

Preferably based in NW England.

Cheers for any help!

A DRB3 is only a scan kit for fault code reading, so I think this would not be needed to rectify your problems as they both appear to be simple electromechanical ones.

good luck hope you get sorted

Fix the leak.
WD40 only works for a while then it dries up and you have the same problem, it softens grease for a while, but is not a true lubricant itself.

OK - found a dealer with DRBIII and the diagnosis was the DRIVE MOTOR (05161797AA).
Sadly they wanted nearly £600 to get the part and replace it so I went to a local breakers yard an got one there.

I've fitted the motor but still no joy - now before I go back to the breakers yard (I realise the motor could be dodgy), I wanted to check something. The DRBIII reports Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), will I need the dealer to clear these codes - even if I bought a brand new motor do the DTC codes need to be cleared and the "system" reset?

Cheers

Yes!

did you not put power to the replacement motor before fitting? might be worth doing this at the breakers if you go to get another one just take two cables with croc clips on each end, sure they will have a battery.

good luck.

Cheers 11 FEB!

So, even if I got a working motor - I'd still need to go back to the dealer to get them to use DRBIII to clear to DTCs?

There's nothing I can do to "reset"?

The code does not need to be cleared to make the system work again. It will be retained within the CPU as a long term memory code
& cause no hold up. Hope the good motor will solve your prob.

This is correct. But you can buy a scanner/code clearer at perhaps Halfords for ~ $60 (GBP).

Ooops. I couldn't find one there.

Or maybe eBay:

OBD II Reset Check Engine Light OBD2 CAN Auto Scanner | eBay

These asre very handy to have in any case. It will work for any of your friends' motors, too.

Just make sure it will work with a "CANbus" system.

The saga continues ...

I took 11 FEB's advice and checked both the motor I got from the breakers yard and the original one by just running two cables from the motor to a battery and low-and-behold both motors worked!

So it would seem that the fault is not in the motor itself?
Perhaps the sensor itself?

to clear most codes, just unhook the battery terminals for a few minutes, give it time to clear. This won't fix your mechanic problems though. You might check the trunk/boot area for moisture but it sounds like it is electrical to me. Make sure all your fuses/breakers are all working.

I have the same problem spoiler and roof are not working, the motor for the roof is making all the right noises but the roof isn't moving, any suggestions would be appreciated, could it be hydrolic system are the spoiler and roof on the same system, the sensor or the motor?

Thanks :-)
