Default Finally taken the plunge - Now Insurance Dilemma!

Hi All,

Just an update, as you know Ive been looking to buy one of these lovely cars for a while now and have now bought a Grey 55 plate, with 27k miles on.

Great news is that there is No rust to be seen and just the odd stone chip and wheel kerbing. The only other thing I have noticed is the clips that hold the leather on the sides of the seat has come away and just needs clipping in, well I hope thats all it needs!!!

Anyway, here is where I need some advice please. Where do I go for the best insurance deals? I will only be driving for approx 4k miles per year. Do I take out an admiral multi car or is there any specialist insurers that I should try??

Info: Im 32, 14 years ncb, no points, or accidents.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

I took admiral multicar and you get an additional discount if you pay upfront ( not sure if still the case). Definitely do your research and sometimes adding your wife (if you're married) lowers your premium. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.

Took a look at a few comparison sites and it looks like its cheaper if I do 2 individual prices with 2 different insurers but Im wondering if I call Admiral back tomorrow and say that these are the prices I have got and im willing to take my existing policy away from them then they may match the prices.

Im surprised that there is no specialist insurers for the crossfire like the Smart Brabus that I just sold. O well, lets see what happens tomorrow.

Never accept the price quoted online, call you prefered provider with your best quotes from others, they will often try to beat them even though just.

Saw the pics of your new baby on your other thread - very nice - the best colour!
All any of us can do is make recommendations based on our own experience but obviously we're all different!
I'm 52 with but with only 7 yrs NCD - should be more but for a crazy mother distracted by her 4x4 full of kids taking out my entire Voyager wing mirror assembly - very nearly a head-on. I was quoted an eye-watering £400 by the stealership so made a claim but later discovered it would only have cost £135 if I'd paid the authorised bodyshop myself - barely more than the policy excess... but that's another story!
So - I recently bought a late '06 black SRT coupe with 28.5k miles and got what I thought was a good price with Sainsbury's Premier cover of £309 including protected NCD, legal and breakdown cover and direct debit instalments - and it was only about £40 a year more than a standard car.
Sainsbury's standard cover was £26 less and the only cheaper quote was Privilege @ £207 but was much more basic.
Maybe my age or postcode helps - what area are you?

I've fairly recently (about 3 months ago) also bought a Crossfire and my only previous insurance was on bikes. Insurance companies are not interested in bike history soI was pretty much starting from scratch (I also have a company car that I had a small fault claim in last year). Like you I started looking at all the comparison sites and Admiral came out best on a couple of these sites. So I looked closer at the detail and I had a question about the Personal Injury Insurance they were including. Anyway while chatting to the guy on the phone I asked if I was entitled to an introductory NCB as I had been a named driver on my wife's policy with Diamond (Diamond is a sister company to Admiral) so he looked into it and to my surprise said I could have three years! I then haggled about some other stuff and ended up with a quote I was happy to pay and reduced my wife's premium at the same time.

So what was my premium? Well remember I have a SRT and the history previously mentioned. £560.00!

Not cheap but the cars worth it. But don't get me started on the ridiculous £460 Road Tax

Thanks for your replies.

After trawling through all the comparison sites and different individual sites the cheapest ive found is Sheilas Wheels for my wife on the BMW 325i Msport and Privilege for the crossfire. Both come in at £1000 so approx £500 each. Which like everyone, im not overly happy with but its is the best by a few hundred quid.

Sainsburys & Tescos were quoting over £1400 for the crossfire alone.

We are both 32, i have 14 years NCB and my wife has 6 years. Live in south london/surrey boarders so I guess i have to live with that.

Thanks again,

Ah yes, London/Surrey is bound to be different from sleepy SW Scotland.
I remember Tesco quotes being stupidly expensive which really p*ssed me off after being encouraged to find and enter my Tesco card number because the comparison site suggested it would get me a good deal - NOT!
At least you have youth on your side - and a pre-March '06 car for cheaper road tax...
Enjoy!

I would still be inclined to speak to Admiral about a multi-car policy, it costs nothing to ask!

I did, they cant get near it. They are saying £1400 for the year by installments or £1150 if I pay upfront.
