I think in future if I find anything useful (as in this and previous posts) instead of posting I will keep it to myself - we are supposed to be a club and as such helping each other with suggestions (helpful or not) we should act as a club.
I think Mo & Dal..should kiss (not literally) and make-up. This unpleasent banter is spoiling the forum for other users. It may also put xfire owners off from attending future www.crossfires.co.uk meets, and this is the last thing we went.

Rob..thanks for the MB contact..Totton is just a short drive up the M27 for me. I have a minor service due, so will give them a try and report back.

Peace & Love Guys

UKKen.

As I've said before I service my own cars / bikes etc. That way I know it's done right and like others I use Mobil 1 not because it's the best but it is what's recommended

Dal...Just viewed your gallery very impressive..May I ask what you use to clean the engine bay? Mine is clean but I dont have the sheen you have.

I wish I could take the praise for it looking that clean, but to be honest I bought the car from a company in Chichester T&W Performance Cars and the owner of the company also owns a fleet of Autosmart trucks and is a professional valeter.

I think once the ground work is done it's reasonably easy to maintain the level of cleanliness required, especially when your as **** about it as I am.

I believe CBXSteve's is even cleaner than mine under the bonnet as he has access to some very technical cleaning equipment.

Well I don't know about being cleaner under the lid than yours Darran, sure its clean but what let it down in my opinion was the SRT manifolds that were showing signs of "white furr" I set to work with scotchbrite / wirewool & although improving it was giving it the look of being cleaned up as opposed to factory finish. It just so happens that at my work we have a selection of blast equipment with various media types so I opted for the "glass bead vapour" bit the bullet & took the manifolds off & gave them the treatment this restored the "as new" finish I wanted, I then could not resist the urge to polish the SRT letters.
My next task is to tackle the paint arround the boot catch as you did, before she goes back on the road 1st of April.

Hi

as my servicing thread seems to have been hijacked (again) thought I would impart a bit of technical info about one or two things

These are from another thread a long while back and may make you wonder

MB 229.3 MB 229.3 - Multigrade engine oils (Specification 229.3) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids

MB 229.5 MB 229.5 - Multigrade engine oils (Specification 229.5) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids

as might this looking at various cars I have or have driven

Car BHP/Litre
XFR NA Auto 67
SRT 103
Skoda Scout 89
Citroen Berlingo 69
Focus RS 107

The Mercedes Engine isn't particularly stress even when compared to the 1.6 Berlingo!

OK just to clarify as the links copied from the old thread didn't work this is the thread

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...oved-oils.html

and the other bit shows the power of respective engines as a brake horse power per litre, the higher the more stressed and the requirement for better lubrication especially as temperatures go extreme (hot not really issue here as hot starts at +32 degrees C)
When you look at some of the motorbike eg Fireblade the BHP/Lt = 178 then you really need high quality lubrication and regular short oil changes.

The old rally car I ran had around 115 BHP/Lt and ran on Duckhams Q20/50 long before synthetics were around - as I recall the idea behind synthetics was to extend oil changes primarily on diesels which had 3000 between changes and now are typically 20,000 on synthetic
