Default Knocking noise when turning

Hi guys dont know if this has been covered before but I am experiencing a knocking/clicking noise when i turn the steering wheel. It appears to come from the front right wheel and is more noticeable at low speeds or when im slowing down for a left hand corner.

Any advice please

Jack the front wheels up and check for any play, while they are elevated slowly rotate them and look carefully in the tread for anything stuck in, if you've picked up a screw or bolt in the tyre it can sometimes be heard clicking on smooth roads at low speeds

Mine has started to do exactly the same, its not anything in the tyre treads. Right turns are OK.

Any clues to the cause?

If its not something stuck in the tyre, i would guess the wheel bearing has gone.

This is a common Xfire issue. Its usually nothing more than the brake pads moving about in the free play in the calliper. There is an anti rattle device/spring fitted but these can loose the tension they put on the pads as they get old. But it can be made worse if there is wheel bearing play, as the disk touches the pad and shifts it causing a knock. I had this on all three xfires now and again. Simple wheel bearing adjustment is possible for nil cost if needed, and its very rare for new bearings to be needed. I did notice it go after I fitted new pads and disks on one car.

Hi There,

I have the same (very annoying and loud) issue when turning my wheel to the right.
I had my car put on a lift with me sitting in the car. When I turned the steering wheel there was no knocking whatsoever. Once They put the car back on the ground and I turned the steering wheel, the knocking was again heard.
If anyone has a fix for this please advise.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I'd look in the steering linkage for a worn ball joint. When you turn the wheel, there is no load on a joint and it will just move, get a load on it and it fights the movement 'till it has to move. It snaps from one side of the play to the other.
