Default My pride and joy Cat D write off accident / cctv any advice on fixing

Someone drove into my pride and joy last month. This is a link to a you tube video of a local shops cctv of it.

As soon as the inusrance assessor came out and saw it was a chrysler said he would probably have to write it off even though minor damage as a chrysler! I've bought it back from insurance company and now looking to fix it. I've already got a door and side skirt panel from breakers but any advice on this would be helpful. got to move all parts from my old door to the replacement.

Really cool car - what a bummer! But could have been so much worse.
Not saying you're not capable but surely it should go to a professional bodyshop...?

T-Cut - ha-ha!!
Yes, I wondered if he was going a bit quick - but didn't want to rub salt into his wounds - looks like he came pretty close to that parked red car, too!
All things considered, a lucky escape - and he's managed to hang onto his cool car!

I think I see the cause of the accident - you were driving on the wrong side of the road .

Hopefully it will work out so you can get the car fixed and keep it

Good Luck!

Believe it or not I wasn't speeding I've only turned onto the road about 100 metres further back from my house and thought I had avoided her moving into the other lane but she kept coming. She blames cars being parked on double yellows blocking her view.

I'm putting the door on myself and then been quoted £800 for the bodywork side respray.

It amazes me how such minor damage can cause the car to be totaled out.

Make you wonder if ins.co's. are on a campaign to rid the world of all cars over five years old...!
Also amazing how some people drive - can't see 'cos of a blind spot so just put their foot down anyway... incredible.

Yeah I was surprised when they say said they would write it off so got them to explain why.

1st of they said chrysler parts are expensive they've not let other companies copy the parts and there are sometimes delays for the parts which when they are paying for a courtesy car makes it financial sense for them to write it off as they have to give a like for like hire car if not your fault in my case a brand new audi tt quattro costing them £167 a day!

Chrysler wanted £2000 just for a new door. So price for then to fix with new parts £4000 with already a couple of weeks of the hire car when car valued at £5000 means they write it off as over value of car. after little haggling I was offered £5000 or to keep the car and get £3500 which I went for.

All makes sense except the part about Chrysler not letting anyone 'copy' the parts.
No one supplies 'copied' parts because the audience is just not there for the quantity needed to make it profitable.
( just my opinion - I certainly see aftermarket parts for Dodge ( Ram ) trucks, 300's etc.)

Well, when you put it like that - kind of makes sense, I suppose.
So, given that you still have your car which should cost what, £1500 to fix? and, even allowing for a slight drop in value for being Cat. D now, looks like you'll come out of it OK?! - apart from the inconvenience and trauma you've suffered of course...

How mad is this. Just typing up some thoughts on your crossfire then a knock at my door. Its my neighbour. He's just run into the back of some body and damaged to front end. He wanted to know if its was still drivable or not. Spooky.

I'm not in the repair game any more, but when I was the insurance companies worked on around 70% of the trade value as a repair limit. The courtesy car shouldn't play apart of those cost. Did they not offer second hand parts to lower the repair figures?

No offer from them to fix with second hand parts but I would not have accepted that anyway. If they are fixing it I would have only accepted new parts.

It's a cat d economical write off so I don't need to pass any checks or tests and I'm able to drive it now which I am until it gets fixed. I would have come out if it with some money but I've bought a second car a chrysler neon r/t as I was beginning to test my wife's patience always using her car when we went anywhere as a family.
