Where to service my Crossfire in Oxfordshire
Where to service my Crossfire in Oxfordshire
Hello good people.
I finally took the leap and went for a Graphite Grey 04 XF.
It's however in need of a full/main service. I'm based in Oxfordshire and wondered if anyone could recommend a garage to take it to? If no one has any place in mind this way, would you rather a Main dealers MERC vs Chrysler garage? Or would even a local dealer do???
Help please!!!
Thanks
Al

Re: Where to service my Crossfire in Oxfordshire
hi Al...not in your area so dont know of anywhere local to you but i get mine seviced by a trusted local garage, these cars are pretty straight forward as this engine was used in lots of Mercs, as long as the garage uses the right oils and parts dont think you can go far wrong, i would only go to chrysler main dealer if it needed hooking up to diagnostics machine, as for merc main dealer think they will turn there nose up to be honest, my local one does anyway...chris
Hi Chris, thanks for the heads up RE:Merc Garages.
Got quoted £900 for 2-spanner service and £350 for 1-spanner service at the chrysler main dealer in my area. From what I read elsewhere I'm guessing this is similar to others experience. I'll give my local garage a call to check their prices first. See if it's any better.

Telling some garages to check out your car is like giving them your credit card and telling them to go to it.
Here is the check list, it is the 'B' service. CLICK
Thanks for checklist. That was most helpful. I'll see if I can find an experienced buddy close by to work through that checklist with at least in the first instance, don't think as a novice I'll feel confident "servicing it myself" (Ofcourse the mandatory pint will be provided to any willing tutor).
I'm keen to learn if there's a willing tutor out there :-)

That is a lot of money just to check the car and change the oil and filter. Anything that they find wrong is going to cost more. With no warranty to worry about I would run through the check list myself and note any problems and just have these seen to specifically.

Sounds about right!!!!
If you get desperate and have deep pockets, Most Fiat dealers are now Chrysler agents and will service your Crossfire.

Apart from diagnostics, when you open the bonnet, it's 99% SLK - wonder if you got a receptionist who didn't know any better - I bet the mechanics themselves would be happy to do it!
It's not as if you've got a mystery problem to solve - just a straight-forward service.

Re: Where to service my Crossfire in Oxfordshire
sorry to hear that Al...especially as star motors are an indy not a main dealer... seems they are all up their own backsides...as i said any competent garage will be able to perform a straight forward service on the crossfire..had mine done last year all 12 plugs changed correct oil & filter, fuel filter all the usual checks....around £375 if i remember rightly.....good luck...chris

If you don't mind a little further I can recommend Rayner in Newbury
The Good Garage Scheme: Rayner Diesel Services (Newbury)
Don't let the diesel part put you off they are good at diesel & petrol just had the Berlingo cam belt auxiliary belt idler and water pump done all at quoted price all in time and they showed all the replaced items without being asked.
Asked them about crossfire - answer yes and we use Mobil 1 - fair enough
Reception is Debbie 01635 46323
Newbury center is a short 10 mins ish walk plenty to see and food to eat or just wander into Sainsbury coffee shop around corner

Not long had a 2-spanner & MOT @ Fiat/Chrysler in swindon - not sure if they got the price wrong but was @£330.
They quote a 1 spanner (£220), 2 spanner (£270)& 4 year service interval (£600+ i think)

Re: Where to service my Crossfire in Oxfordshire
Thanks for this heads up, I called them and you were correct, the Swindon FIAT is much better priced. And will be going to them I reckon.
In the intervening time, my engine fault light came on, got it read at the Oxford chrysler for convenience and its the "secondary air injection pump" what's weird is that same pump got replaced by the last owner last year (have the reciepts etc for it), do these parts go that often. Should I go with a brand new one from chrysler? or would one from a breakers do just as fine???
