Default Tyre size for rear wheels.

Hi Guys,

I need to rear tyres for my 2006 tyres. Any suggestions on decent wearing but good in wet and grip? Also, what size can I go up to as the Mrs keeps curbing the alloys. Can I go wider to protect the alloy against her crap driving?

General G-Max 275/35-19 on OEM rims. All Season, sticky when wet, quiet and great tread rating/price. Nuff said!

I use the Gmax 275/35r 19 on rear great wet traction, they are directional tires but I have them remount ed and balanced to flip to the other side.
They are soft sidewalls, so I run a stiffer sidewall on front.
Gmax is the best wet and longest lasting tire I could find for our cars.
275 is the widest that is reccomended for stock rear 9" wide rim

Agreed whole heartedly on the Gmax.. seems to be a really good balance on price - performance - and mileage.

This member is in the UK so he may or may not have these tires (tyres) available to him.
A UK member is the best person to reply.

If they're available in the UK; I have 285x35x19 on the rear...good stance look and no clearance issues (car is not lowered)...Carl

Quite a lot of us bods in the UK run the Falken FK453 275/35/19 on the rear, they seem to work quite well especially if the FK453's are used all round, these replaced the older FK452 that if still available are likely to be getting a bit long in the tooth now.

I had Toyo proxes on our track/fast road Mx5, as did a number of friends and we all loved them.
I put them on the Camaro too and they transformed the cars ride and handling ( rears did not last long on the camaro, but that was down to me having a liking for lots of smoke and burning rubber!)
No idea how they would go on a XF but see the do come in 275 and 285 35 19
Has anyone fitted them?

The Proxes have come a long way since their first version. The latest 'Proxes 4 Plus' are up there with the Conti DWS and G-Maxs as far as tread rating and price go. Would highly recommend them. 275 is about as big as you'll want to go on the oem rear rims. Some members reported that the 285s gave the installers fits getting them to seat right.

Thanks for the replies guys. If I put 275's all round, will I need spacers?

235 is widest reccomended on front.
I flip tires side to side twice a year, unmount flip and put on other side so the inside is on the outside.
