Strange noise from car - solved
Strange noise from car - solved
Hi all, this is a note for all those (especially in the UK).
I have had a deep rumbling drone noise coming from the car for the last few months. Nobody has been able to find the cause, we have looked at everything possible to no avail. Yesterday the problem went away.......I had new tyres fitted as they had been flagged on the MOT as being near the wear limit.
I did not expect the tyres to be the cause, but it's been a pleasant surprise.
Hope this may help other X fire owners with a similar situation.

I jacked up the rear end and put on stands, when running wheels off the ground, no noise at all. Engaged the emergency brakes gently to add a load, still no noise.
I had a spare set of wheels and tires, replaced the rears and test drove - completely quiet
She had a new set of tires installed, problem solved.
