Default Strange noise from trunk area

A few times now I've heard a strange clunk or whump sound noise coming from the trunk area. It occurred yesterday after I got off the freeway and was waiting for the light to change. After about a minute the sound happened. It kind of sounds like someone hits the back of the car.

I don't yet have 1K on the car. I haven't paid close enough attention yet to know if it only happens when I'm stopped.

I found these links to similar issues.

Any thoughts? Has anyone had their dealer successfully do something about it?

this is fairly, if not very, common. i hear a pop or two after getting off the interstate just after coming to a stop. the last of your links related to the emissions valve is what you are hearing if the sound seems like it is coming from the passenger side rear of the car. if that's the case consider it just a normal characteristic. maybe there is a fix but your crossfire will operate just fine with the occasional pop.

the issue with sway bar linkages making thumping noises occurred in some crossfires because they were not torqued properly at the factory. but those clanks or thumps are much more noticeable and occur when turning not when sitting still.

How loud is this noise in most cars? I'll pay attention to it with a more educated ear now, but yesterday it was loud enough that both my wife and I immediately turned around to see who bumped us. Maybe it's something that quiets over time? Or do you think it will always be that noticeable?

i had the same problem when i bought my car... and also it didn't have even 1k - so i drove to the dealership and the fix it... the sound was made because handle of the trunk wasn't tightened ... so check it out perhaps is another thing...

Hi Marioalexandro121:

I'm specifically referring to a sound that happens when the car is not moving.

Although I'm also experiencing some other loose-something-or-other noises when driving over non-smooth surfaces at low speed. I took it to the dealer. The tech there fully extended the two plastic stoppers on either side of the trunk lid - a 10 second fix. That helped some, but it didn't fix all of it. I don't know if that's the balanced way to fix it.

I think I may have to drive around with someone laying in the trunk to pinpoint the source.

Interestingly, that problem only happens at low speed over bumps (they can be slight). Outside of the stoppers on either side of the trunk lid, are there other obvious things to check?

I know how frustrating strange noises from the trunk area can be. I just installed 4 new winter tires on 18" aftermarket wheels and I have a constant clicking noise inside the car. Does any one know what this could be? The manual recommends that my 2005 coupe should have 4 identical 18" wheels. Does anything have to be recalibrated?

Check the lenght of the wheel lugs!! You could be destroying your e-brake hardware. They can contact the parts inside if they are to long.

Where inside the car do you hear the sound coming from. I know you're looking at your tires, but if your Crossfire is new to you - sometimes a CD left in the radio head unit will click.

I have a tapping sound in my trunk. the dealer losened the two plastic stops on the trunk and the problem got worse. Should they be tighter. The tapping sound is load enough to be annoying.

I had noises in the trunk for a while after I put the mother-in-law in there, but the noises eventually stopped

Doesn't smell that different -- that old lady perfume is pretty strong!
